Isn't there a ground controller at JFK who's a lot like that?
I thin this is great, but I'm getting tired of the robot voice thing. Why can't people just say it themselves?

Yes he is at ISP, he was working tower Sunday morning when I was flying.
Forgive my lack of knowledge about this stuff, but I always thought most of these planes and airports had some sort of displays and sensors that "knew" where the planes were, using gps or rfid tags. I didnt realize it was most visual.
Only a few major US airports have it, and JFK only got it within the last year I believe.Quote:

I landed at JFK 2 years ago (on a 777) and I couldnt even see the wingtip. Now that I know they dont have these sensors, I have no idea how they got all the planes off the runway and to the gate
You hear things like "American 123, have you landed?" "Yes, we have." "OK, taxi via A, B, and C." It takes a lot of mental spatial gymnastics and everybody working together to figure out where everyone else is.Quote:
