JAL, Delta reach basic deal over comprehensive tie-up
The Yomiuri Shimbun
Japan Airlines and Delta Air Lines on Friday reached a basic agreement on a comprehensive tie-up that mainly features code-sharing flight services, company sources said.
The ailing airline and the world's largest carrier are likely to officially sign the deal after it is finally endorsed by new JAL top management that will be inaugurated after the JAL group applies for the application of the Corporate Rehabilitation Law.
Kazuo Inamori, honorary chairman and founder of electronics firm Kyocera Corp., will lead JAL's new management as chief executive officer.
Re: JAL Signs Codeshare Deal With Delta
Well bye One World JAL aircraft. Shoot them while u can. As soon as this is signed One World will probably kick JAL out of JAL doesnt withdraw first.

Re: JAL Signs Codeshare Deal With Delta
This is a huge thumbs down. Was planning a trip to Thailand next year hoping to non-rev on JAL from NRT since they are part of oneworld. Would be nice if AA shifted their focus to the other Asian OW parter, CX. Would be nicer if AA started some direct flights to HKG as well.

AA has a codeshare going with CX. All the CX flights out of JFK have a AA code with the CX code. I dont see AA sending in any of their own A/C anytime soon since that would take away from the CX flights. Those flights are really popular and are usually full. Will there be an additional flight added to the current flight schedule to HKG anytime soon? Unlikely but when things rebound be sure there will be some kind of additional flight to and from HKG most likely by CX.

Understood about codeshare agreement but for those needing to travel longhaul on CX as opposed to AA, it is not possible to upgrade on CX using the usual methods - eVIPs or miles. Although the Asian airlines in general provide better service than the US airlines, most AA flyers traveling even to HKG would prefer to fly to NRT on AA and upgrade and then connect on JL in coach to reach HKG or their ultimate Asian destination rather than endure 16 hours in CX coach. With JL leaving ow, unless NRT is their final destination, these travelers will consider other airlines unless they or their companies can afford paying business or first fares on CX.
Re: JAL Signs Codeshare Deal With Delta
First class is really expensive on CX. They only have 12 1st class seats and filling all of them is a money made flight. any other seat filled is bonus
Re: JAL Signs Codeshare Deal With Delta
There was a denial posted by JAL about an hour after this story ran, so it may not be a done deal.
Time will tell.
Re: JAL Signs Codeshare Deal With Delta
Heh there trying to save their asses with OW and their gov. This is really getting ineresting.
Re: JAL Signs Codeshare Deal With Delta
JAL officially decided to dump AA/oneworld on Wednesday. They are planning to announce a new partnership with Delta and Skyteam on Monday. JAL will seek antitrust immunity, and may add service to Detroit (for Delta connections) and Amsterdam (for KLM connections).
