Plane down in Shirley

Small Plane down in Shirley, just North West of the airport.

1 plane crashed into a tree & a dumpster, then caught fire at 43 Crestwood Drive & Helene Ave, Shirley just before noon. Fire Crews were immediatly on scene and reported 1 person in the plane Dead on Arrival, 2 other victims removed from the plane & being Medivac'd to Stony Brook University Hospital with severe burns. Suffolk County Aviation Section provided 2 Helocopters & both were transported in short order. Sadly, a second victim has succumbed to her injuries a few hours after arriving at the hospital.

The flight originated from Brookhaven's Calabro airport, less than a mile from the crash site.
