I guess we just have to sit back and wait. Hopefully it just "brushes" us.

THE PROGRESS OF EARL.
Unless Sheltair dumps their hangar, I doubt anyone on the field can hold the blimp. I'm no blimp expert, but I would think if the forecast on Thursday afternoon is holding steady, they will bug out then.
However, I'm among thost that hopes that Earl stays far enough off shore to not be a bother.
I'll be in a pub in London enjoying a few pints :) Hopefully it will stay to the east so the majority if not all the area is to the west of the eye wall.
the blimp deflates in a few hours and fits into one of the two tractor trailors
I was living in Brentwood when Gloria ripped thru and we had the eye go right thru our block. It was incredible to see how many trees were lost. There were more lost than were left standing and the town had to bring in the huge trucks and pick up all the trees that were cut up in very large dump trucks. They say there was a mini tornado in the eye as the speeds of the impacts were well over hurricane force. I do not remember any houses leveled but there were some with big pieces missing. It was really bad.
here is a small clip from the home movie. My father had the camera off when it was as bad as it got as he was trying to keep the house full of people calm. We had friends from East Islip over as they were 1 block from the water and were evacuated.

Yes, but the winds are the worst on the eye wall.... and that also has the potential to spin off a mini tornado (Very rare from what I understand).... There have been eye's so big that people think the storm is over for 15 minutes to a half hour.... they can be deadly wrong. The Eye usually is not that big and as it hits landfall the eye will not have that kind of structure. With Gloria, it got nice and then the tree that was on the wires in this video quickly went the other way and took out the tree on the right side. The eye is most dangerous becuase if it passes directly over it will revers winds and any trees that are weekend will be pushed the opposite way.
Gloria was good stuff.
Might actually consider upping our house insurance this week
Wow, these new projected paths bring the storm closer to NYC/LI. NOAA's interactive map: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/grap...track#contents

Thats not good. Why do I get the feeling this storm will be the one they have been perdicting to hit us for years? That thing is huge. Reminds me of Hurricane Kartina. Come on cold front. Move this thing out east. Currently a Cat 4 storm with 135MPH winds.

Looks like the 11pm advisory has moved the track to the east. Only far eastern LI is within the cone now, whereas it covered the entire island including NYC for the past day.
Given that all the models except one seem to agree it will stay east of LI, I tend to think we'll probably miss this one.
Its still tenative. Lets wait a day before putting 100% into a way here. I'm hoping it goes with the secondary models and stays out completely. But I still have an uneasy feeling were going to be hit by this monster.
