Anyone have a schedule of when each of the performers will be over the beach for tomorrow?

From what I saw from the practice show is that the Jet team action happens from 12 noon to 3pm. F16 demo team, Snowbirds F-35,F16, Mustang heritage flight, Jack Links, Fat Albert, Blue Angels.

The Breitling team didn't go up yesterday

A sad start to the Memorial Day weekend...

The P-47D Thunderbolt "Jacky's Revenge" crashed into the Hudson River last night, killing the pilot, 56-year-old Bill Gordon. The plane belongs to the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale, and was taking part in a publicity shoot for this weekend’s Bethpage Airshow at Jones Beach. The pilot brought the plane down in the Hudson Rover, making a successful crash landing, but couldn’t get out of the safety harness and was dragged underwater along with the plane.

RIP Bill

Just an awful tragedy!! Hopefully they make an announcement at the air show and have a moment of silence!! Maybe one of the teams will fly a Missing Man formation!! Didn't know the pilot but as an aviation enthusiast and having seen that aircraft flying numerous times it's just very sad!! Condolences to his family and friends and all his colleagues at the AAM!!

From the American Airpower Museum's Facebook Page:

To our FB Friends,
The Large and extended family of the American Airpower Museum suffered a tragedy on Friday. An extraordinary pilot who understood the powerful message our aircraft represent in telling the story of American Courage and Valor died after bringing our P-47 Thunderbolt to a forced emergency landing in the Hudson River. Bill Gordon was a nationally respected Pilot in our Warbird Community and we are honored to call him one of our own. The FAA and appropriate agencies will determine the reason for the inflight emergency and accident therefore please understand that as a result we will limit our public statement at this time. For the Past 16 years the Thunderbolt has been a potent symbol of our museum, a keystone to our public presentations here and throughout the north east. It is our commitment to Bill, our fraternity of pilots, docents, and ground personnel that our mission will continue, our focus undiminished in presenting these historic aircraft to the new generation so that they better understand our nation's fight to preserve and protect our freedoms. The Museum will stay open this Memorial Day Weekend, we will stand down from Jones Beach airshow operations today and will perform a salute and missing man tribute to our dear friend and pilot Bill Gordon today with the help of our fellow Jones Beach airshow performers. In doing so we keep alive the spirit of what we all hold dear. Our concern right now is making sure the family of our fallen friend, pilot, and colleague is cared for, and our extended Airpower Museum Family. We dedicate the remainder of the weekend's flying in Bill's honor.
Thank you for your support, and sympathies.

I was @ the beach today. They did the show out of the order listed. There were no warbirds. Geico did a missing man formation. The announcer asked for a moment of silence during the missing man formation, and the entire beach was silent. It was a nice tribute. RIP

Thats why I said it was tentative.

Rob Reider is the announcer, his 12th year I believe doing this show.

They announced at at the show beginning that the AAM warbirds were standing down today. Even though it was anticipated I left it in the schedule just in case.

Geico Skytypers closed their performance with a missing man formation

Actually FDNY Divers have the plane secured to one of their Marine Units

The plane looks pretty intact and sits now on the end of the barge of the Downtown Heliport. Will be there a few days before being sent down to Delaware according to the news report I just saw.

BA#5 had mechanical issues and went directly back to FRG after the show.
As Gerard posted, Fat Albert ( BA#10) departed at 5:30 to go pick up parts
and I heard it should be returning around 9PM tonight.

10? That right? Oh that's Bert.

they had been having mechanical issues all weekend. They have changed plane numbers several times and have been doing work on the Tarmac quite a bit. At one point yesterday here were two 1s and the two seater went from 7 to 2 and I think 5.

I was saddened to find out the news of P-47 Thunderbolt "Jacky's Revenge" forced emergency landing in the Hudson River and the fate of pilot Bill Gordon. Bill Gordon expertly landed the P-47 on the water / saving the aircraft for future generations / whether it fly's again or is on static display. Thank You & GodSpeed Bill Gordon.

I mentioned this about the weekend weather:

It will be fine, Steve is in Charlotte for NASCAR this weekend...
Tropical Storm Bonnie should reach the Carolina coast tonight, forecast is for rain Sunday which will likely impact the race - thank you Steve for choosing the race rather than the air show!

Friday night after the practice show I stopped to get pics of the Snowbirds and saw two of them in the Sheltair hangar!!
And yes they don't use "Fat Albert Airlines" as their call sign but that would be cool.

At Oceana a few years ago, the Blues were having maintenance trouble and one of the two-seaters blasted off in the morning to ferry a pilot down to Pensacola to fetch a spare plane. They got back and performed the afternoon show.

Did the F-35 do a flyover at the airport today?

Yes, it made two passes on runway 19. On the second pass, it came in low and almost performed a bolter, as it came within a few few feet of touching down before gunning it and heading back up to head out to presumably McArthur as they headed East.

Blues had to cut short their performance and return to Repubic!! Visibility issues and from sunny and clear Republic it looks like a marine layer has moved in off the water. Depends on where you get the forecast from, right now NOAA's is looking good

Damn good it was!!! Except for the fog that rolled in to cut the Blues performance short the weather was great!! Oh it was a "little" warm and yeah HAZY at times ( the bane of the photog) but couldn't ask for better considering what was being thrown around by various sources in the days leading up to the arrival of the performers.
Quick questions: Snowbirds leave? A-10 gone? And any idea when the wounded Angel and Albert leaving?
Thanks guys!! Hope everyone had a great time these last bunch of days!! Some of the BEST action I've seen in a long time!! Great pictures also!!!!
Now today with all this rain and fog I can relax, have a normal breakfast and catch up on my DVR.

Any flight operations out of AAM today?

Doesnt look like it as I just passed. Weather not great especially to the south and east where aircraft say the ceiling tops out at 900 feet and the airport just announced they are going IFR. One plane a Cessna 421 departed and quickly decided to come back. A flight of 2 red AStars from Liberty Helicopters "Blade" program came in and they might be there in Atlantic for awhile.

The Angel with the broken wing and his brother Albert have left and the arresting gear is packed up on two tractor trailers ready to leave themselves.
The A-10 still at the AAM and I believe it was scheduled to be here today for the Memorial Day activities. With the weather crappy they might not leave till tomorrow? Same with the B-17
Snowbirds parked with the canopies covered. If I remember correctly the last time they were here they didn't leave until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Flying at the AAM was cancelled today due to weather, both C-47 and B-17 rides. A-10, B-17, and Snowbirds are scheduled to depart Tuesday, but I don't have times.

The B-17 crew discovered they had a tire go flat overnight...

Since they don't carry a spare - it's pretty heavy, and I'm not sure they could even fit one in the airplane - they had one flown in on this BAE Jetstream 31.

In the end, it didn't affect flight operations, as the weather took care of that.

Wow, there were a lot of mechanical issues this year! And great shots all! Still haven't had a chance to do anything with mine from Thursday and Friday, not expecting much as the haze was a challenge and I'm still working on my photog skills. My camera crapped out so I had to sit out Saturday.

They are departing slowly. Two jets went up by themselves, then a flight of 3 then 25 minutes later another flight of 3. Looks like another group ready to go out.

I absolutely agree!! 3 jet teams!! 4 high performance teams when you count the Geico Team who always put on a tremendous show!! The F-16 doing his thing and the Heritage Flight along with the Golden Knights and the acrobatic soloists!! Just great great stuff!!! And the action at FRG was amazing especially with the use of Runway 14 for the Angels all weekend though they originally came in on 32 Thursday!! Great location along 110 to watch them come in and zoom right over your heads!! No trees in thew way!! And not crazy like New Highway!! I know the savvy fans watched them depart 14 on New Highway then drive over to watch them by Rt 110.
And I know this is WAY EARLY but usually the military teams switch off year to year so next year we probably get the Thunderbirds!! What can we do to have them use FRG? Theyve done it before!! Makes the weekend experience so much better!! Are they anti-social? LOL!! Anyway just a thought!:eek::mad:

Lengthen the runway and pave the taxiways...Snowbirds requested back taxi on 19 after landing Saturday "due to the condition of the taxiway" and had an engine problem on one of their jets after sucking up some rocks on the taxiway.

So John the Falcon needs more runway length to land and take off than the Hornet? When they were here in 2009 someone told me they needed an FAA waiver to be able to use Republic.

From what I understand they need only like an additional 250 feet more than what FRG has for some reason. Seems like its not much, but thats their directive. I do recall last time they were at FRG most of their takeoffs were in burner. Not sure if that was to make noise for the crowd or because of the "short" runway.

Regardless of the reason, it stinks they cant base out of FRG.

And with the Angels grounded # 5 might be sitting there awhile. Soon after LCDR Davis’ (also #6) crash in April 2007, the Blue Angels began performing a five-jet demonstration. The squadron called back former Blue Angel, LCDR Craig Olson, to fill the opposing solo position. He began performing after practicing with the team for a few weeks. LCDR Olson had previously served with the squadron from 2003 to 2005, during which time he flew both solo positions. I imagine the same will happen now. Back in 1985 I was at the Dayton Airshow and saw the Blues put on a 5 ship demo. It was only a WEEK after both solo's collided during the show at Niagara Falls. One ejected and the other, Mike Gershon did not and was killed. So after only a week they had a pilot who not only was involved in an accident and ejected flying in a modified show. But those were different times 30 years ago.

but the Bu. No. of the #5 jet that first landed at FRG last Thursday was #163451.

Are the Blues still in Stand Down in Tennessee or were they allowed to reposition back to Pensacola? I also read about them possibly going to a 5 jet formation but in the same article there was no timetable for their return. There next scheduled performance is next week in Syracuse!
I would also gather that the Thunderbirds are also in Stand Down. They were scheduled this weekend for Kirtland AFB, next week for the Rhode Island National Guard Open House. Their website says schedule hasnt changed but continue to monitor the website.

I have this clip of the BA Solos taking off from Thursday 5/26. It's nothing special, just hits home considering what has happened recently. #6 flew right over the camera. https://youtu.be/Mw1LLAj1gZA

So with Angel # 5 still sitting there, eventually when it does depart we'll probably get a heads-up when Fat Albert or another USN/USMC aircraft arrives!! When Albert left late Wed afternoon the pilot and rest of the maintenance/support crew had to be onboard!!

Call me nuts but if they do all come back to pick up #5 with Bert and the crew, a nice round of applause from those along the fence would be in order. Just a show of support of some sort.

Absolutely agree. If I can get enough of a heads up and get out of work I would like to be there.

Thats very nice!!
So who does the investigation in the crash? is it a primarily a military investigation of does the NTSB get involved? Where is the wreckage of the jet?
It might be awhile before a cause is found and with Angel 5 having mechanical issues before the crash they might not let it fly for awhile. Of course that is all conjecture on my part.

The Navy will conduct the accident investigation, just like the Air Force will investigate the crash of the Thunderbird jet.

Just saw a few articles on FB that when Fat Albert Airlines is carrying the body of Captain Kuss they are using the Call Sign "Blue Angel 6" and have the # 6 on the front of the plane under the cockpit!
Such Respect for a Hero!!

So just saw on the Blue Angels FB page that Fat Albert as Angel 6 is flying down to Delaware to pick up the body of Capt Kuss and return him to Pensacola. When they get to Pensacola they will be met by Angel # 5 Lead Solo Lt Ryan Chamberlain and the two aircraft will to a fly over of Pensacola!!
A beautiful tribute which should happen around 5:45 ETA.
It also tells us that the Hornet at FRG is no longer #5 or at least for today!!

They swap those jets around all the time, just replacing the big decal number on the tail. They had another jet with #5 this past weekend for the show in Tennessee.

From Fat Albert's visit on Wednesday June 1st, 2016. I'd look for a return trip this week.

For anyone willing to drive 100 or so miles south this weekend: Thunderbird #8 arrived Wednesday for the OC Airshow this weekend. TB's #1-7 are planned to arrive today, Thursday at 3pm. Since there isn't an active onlne forum to follow the events down that way, I'm not sure if they are staging out of AC or somewhere else this year. The OC Airshow FB page is probably the only real time feed of events that I can find. Weekend weather is Sunny, 0% precip, but windy.

Just saw on Blue Angels Tribute on FB that they left the #1 jet in Tennessee, appears they had problems with it. Also saw that the #5 jet was a 2 seater. With a #5 here, a #1 in Tennessee and the jet Capt Kuss' lost it would seem they all there single seats are in use. And if they were in Tennessee today depending on if they got it up and running perhaps the will be back tomorrow or over the weekend.

If I may rant for a second...they cant keep aircraft in the air, keep having to leave them behind, and they just lost one as well which I can only assume had some kind of mechanical component to the event.

Something clearly is not right with the squadron.

Was thinking the same but didn't want to bring it up. I was concerned the day they arrived here and had the problem with #4. Plus didn't they have 2 issues last season with pieces of the planes coming off?

There are a couple of articles covering how overused the aircraft are. Sounds like an increasing risk they are taking. http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/blue-angel-f-a-18-hornets-shed-parts-in-flight-twice-in-1709836712

4:20 Fat Albert left but will return to pick up the maintenance crew and a ton of equipment that was offloaded. Capt Higgins told us they had an engine problem enroute and had to divert to Stewart to get fixed. One engine went out. I believe they are returning the Stewart crew to their base and will be back. # 5 is definitely heading out today.

Gerard
2016-06-20, 06:32 PM
So you can't make this stuff up!! We were all hanging by the fence line watching the crews load up the C-130 and they were getting the Hornet ready. All of a sudden we see the big Fire-Rescue Truck racing to the north and we look to see that a PLANE HAD CRASHED on Runway 19. Smoke was rising from the plane and a bunch of us ran to the other side of the fence and we can see both pilots out, no fire!! Not sure what happened but it was on its belly and both props were severely bent!! It was a Swearigen SA-226.
So guess what? Fat Albert and Angel 5 are going no where tonite!! Airport is closed and the plane is blocking both runways. One of the crew chiefs came over and told us the bad news that they were bunking in L.I. tonite!!
Kinda Ironic if you ask me!!

Crew Chief said sometime in the morning, I'm thinking early.
When the pilots came out of the C-130 they all acknowledged us at the fence and pointed to the makeshift shrine and patted their heart and waved to us. Later Capt Katie Higgins came over with autographed pictures of the C-130 and chatted with a bunch of us for awhile!! What an absolutely delightful and lovely young lady and she told us how much the whole team really really appreciates the support and love they have received from us and they were all touched by the tribute on the fence which they had known about from pictures!! Gotta say almost had a few tears in my eyes !! That was so nice of her to come over!!

Just a few more observatiions from Captain Higgins chatting with us.
They REALLY love coming to Long Island and wish they could every year but they switch with the TBirds!! We kinda ragged on how the TBirds dis Republic and go to Islip!! She took the high road for the most part lol
They hope to be getting the Super Hornets as soon as next year and even Fat Albert will be jumping up to a "J" Model.
For the time being they will fly as a 5 plane team. There is a new pilot in training and hopefully he willl be ready before the end of the season. He is now undergoing centrifugal training which of course is essential. They are not sure of the next two shows in Michigan and Indiana but really want to be ready for Pensacola on July 16 for all the obvious reasons!!
Once again it was very cool her talking with us!! Good stuff!!
