By class:

1. Regional: Embraer E-Jet - good 70-100 seater, one can put first-class or business-class seats in the plane, and it is still a light plane. (This is why the B736 and the A318 were commercial flops.)
2. Short-medium haul: Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 with sharklets. The latter especially can easily do trans-con, although Virgin does use A320s on transcon trips as well. The Airbus A321neoLR will essentially supplant the 757 on long, thin routes.
3. Long-haul: 777 on capacity for now, possibly the 787-10 in the future. The A380 only really works for slot-restricted routes, which is why it has no American customers and the 747 has not been produced for an American passenger airline since Northwest placed an order for 6 in the mid-1990s.
