FAA and DOT leadership has announced to the unions representing FAA bargaining units that the following changes will be implemented if sequestration goes through:

-The majority of FAA employees will receive one to two unpaid days off each two weeks until the beginning of October. Since this is a general across the board cut, the reduction will reduce staffing at all periods for ATC, and will largely impact facilities/areas that are at or near capacity. New York, Chicago, and San Francisco were specifically mentioned.

-Routine maintenance to navigation facilities will be reduced.

-Airman and Air Carrier certification and approvals will slow appropriate to the level of staffing available in FAA offices.



In addition, the FAA said it will reduce or eliminate service at the following New York Towers:
