They keep saying it should all be good by Memorial Day and as long as we dont get any more crazy or destructive storms by then we should be good to go!!

Hey guys!

I apologize for the lack of updates but I have been extremely busy the past couple of weeks and on top of that nyasinfo.com crashed.

As far as airshow news, it has been pretty dry. It is confirmed we will not get the F-22 (not unexpected at all), and that Sean Tucker (as Chris mentioned above) and John Klatt will be performing in the show this year. We will hear a lot more info and possibly the announcement of some first time guests at the Jones Beach airshow in the coming weeks.

Also for people who just have this thread bookmarked or if you somehow missed it - History Under The Stars 2013 has been announced and more info is in this thread. (http://nycaviation.com/forum/threads/45113-History-Under-the-stars-2013-NY-Airshow-Night-Photography-Event)

Unfortunately if sequestration happens many shows/demos will be cancelled. For now there is nothing we can do but sit down and watch what happens.

Well the CNO is already reducing the CAG presence in the gulf to one. The USS Teddy Roosevelt's return to service is being delayed as is the refueling of the Lincoln and the deployment of the Truman. It would be disappointing but not surprising at this point.

Some wishful thinking but its possible only the military base airshows are being cancelled as they consider the civilian site shows "good for recruiting"!! Did read that somewhere!!
Wonder if this will effect Fleet Week and everything that goes along with it!?

Correct, while the order for ceasing support for active-duty, reserve, and Guard units (i.e. 106th, F-22, ect;) is effective today, it doesn't go in effect for the Thunderbirds until April 1st.

No military performers, but since the show doesn't use a military airfield, there's no de jure reason that the show would have been cancelled. The organizers could have chosen to cancel based on the potential of low attendance, but it looks like they've chosen not to. Having an airshow at Jones Beach this year is also a huge vote of confidence to show that area beaches are going to be open for the summer post-hurricane.

The same would apply to any of the private shows not held in conjunction with a military airfield (Chicago Air and Water, Atlantic City, and so on). I actually wonder if AC would move to a weekend timing this year. The whole reason they've always had for doing a midweek show is because it basically guarantees having a jet team. On-base shows (Langley, Dover, Pax, Quonset, Oceana, etc) are all toast. This was already an off-year for McGuire and Andrews.

Because the politicians were not involved in the NHL labor dispute. This whole sequester BS is all political. Neither side likes the other, so they wont work with each other.
In the end it doesn't affect them, so they DO NOT GIVE A $H!T about the US Citizens. All they care about is how they look in the press. This country is tumbling towards disaster and they are all showing a blind eye, because:

1) "They are in charge, so what could be going wrong?"

2) They are getting paid, so what do the taxpayers of this great nation have to complain about?

3) In the end "Our side has to look better than their side" no matter what. The people will re-elect us next time, all we have to do is attack our opponents character.

I've lost a lot of faith in the country over the last decade. I honestly think it's time to get rid of the political party system. Everyone registered voter in this country is an American. We should be fighting for our survival as Americans. Create real sustainable jobs, end the "stop-gap" job. "We created "X" number of jobs repairing the roads in X state" - okay, when the road work is complete, they are unemployed again.

STOP giving money overseas, when we are in a sequester! $60mil to Syria, $250mil to Egypt....really? Why? To keep good relations? Look inside your own borders...people are struggling, look at the NJ shore, Staten Island, The Rockaways, Long Beach. These are people who were devastated by a natural disaster, and they have to jump through hoops to get a fraction of the money they need to rebuild. Yet, we want to help Syrian dissidents overthrow their government. It's sickening.

BTW, I see the Jones Beach Air Show site have updated their 2013 logo and morphed
the F-18 they used for the Blue Angels into a Canadian CF-18 with red trim !! Ha !!
They should've used a gray F-18 with a Red Maple leaf on the top just like the 2002 CF-18 had.

For a 10-year show, Jones Beach is going to be a let down. I don't blame anyone but the US Government. The military wants to perform, as well as protect out country, but our elected leaders will not allow them, due to not being able to sit down and work together. Any Elected official who thinks that Sequestration will help this country is out of their mind! It is setting us up for one hell of a downturn (on top of what we already have been through). All that campaign BS about "working together across the aisle" is just that BS, when will the people of this great land wake up?

I think the pilots are already required to log X amount of seat time per month, so this is the time they could use to train. If Jones beach charged an extra $10 a car plus local sponsors, I think we could be looking at a pretty significant amount of $. if we assume 800K people, and 3 per car, thats $2.67M in parking alone. ... actually, maybe it isnt doable, lol.

As far as sponsorship goes, maybe the BFCU could work with the AAM and get the Collings Foundation to come down with their F-4 Phantom, A-4 Skyhawk and F-100?! There is also another F-100 Hun out there which appeared up at the Barnes show a year ago. A Vietnam Vets salute! Throw in some UH-1's...

My second vote would be a Grumman Cat gathering. Bring in as many flyable Wildcats, Hellcats, Bearcats as you can. How about 3-4 P-47's? A salute to LI Aviation!

The problem is everyone has the same idea about bringing in other warbirds, and unless you have things in the works already, it's probably going to be tough to find someone free this late in the game. I've heard about some things the AAM was looking at, but nothing definite at this point.

The Collings Foundation has some great stuff, but they tour it pretty heavily around the country during the warm weather months. Its not just as simple as flying it down from the home base in Mass. The aircraft are likely already committed to other engagements, even if they aren't showing up on the website.

On a related note, they just released another block of dates for the Wings of Freedom Tour, through late August. Looks like they may be making it back up this way for September yet again.

Good points and even though we probably won't have to deal with really BIG crowds at Jones Beach this year without the Thunderbirds, I still expect ALOT of Diehard Air Show fans from all over the Northeast will be coming to Jones Beach just to see the CF-18 Demo, since it will be one of their ONLY opportunities to actually see a military jet demo anywhere in the US this year !! :cool:

I know it's wishful thinking, but I hope the Jones Beach Air Show can still contact either the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach about possibly getting their RARE Me-262, de Havilland Mosquito or Focke-Wulf FW190 to fly in the show OR Art Nalls about booking his Sea Harrier Demo !!

Make it like some other shows around the country that are not held every year, "No Team...No Show".

It is a NY State park and nice hot weather on the traditional start of summer will draw crowds, and the state will get it's $10 per car anyhow.

If you are talking about having an airshow then something needs to be added to make up for some burner. It has become a tradition and you can count on adding a few thousand people who want to enjoy some aerial activity. I forgot about Art Nalls Sea Harrier, that would be a great headliner! I still love the Black Diamond Jet team.

CF-18 arrival tomorrow (Wed) ETA unknown (look for support trucks, that is usually a good indicator).
The Raiders should arrive Thursday at 6pm (weather permitting) and they will fly a 2 ship teaser demo at the beach followed by a 4 ship full demonstration.
PBY arrival on Thursday (weather permitting)
B-17 arrival on Friday

Sadly i decided to stay off the beach and just hang out at Republic on Sunday!! In the past I'd be off Fri-Mon to partake in all the fun but this year I'm actually working Fri AND Sat!! And there better not be ANY politicians from any party at the beach Sat/Sun including Chuck "I never met a camera/microphone I didnt like" Schumer!! Dont want to hear any BS in the media from these jerks.

Chuck Aaron and the Red Bull Helicopter came in around 2:25. Parked on the north side of Sheltair. Team Klatt went up for a photo mission around 1PM. With both their aircraft and a Bonanza photo plane they headed out
to the south shore then up to the north shore for photo ops!! Weather aint that great. They had a reporter aboard the 2 seater, possibly one of the News12 cuties. :cool: Later the solo ship did a few more flights and Team Oracle also flying with their photo plane.

I haven't been out to FRG for a while now... But I was wondering, is the airport still ok with people parking along the side of that main road (next to the museum) and taking pics from the tops their own SUV's?

The fences are just a bit too small for most lenses.

At the beach, that's probably going to be a little short.

Later in the day, usually the F18 is the last act, so basically 1:30-2:00pm to get a somewhat good spot. Thats my opinion. For the best spot, I recommend a spot along the fence on New Highway next to runway 32, bring earplugs for the kiddies! Some one correct me if i don't speak the truth.

Heard the CF-18 go over my Office in Copiague. Listing to Live ATC. Pilot said its Going to be the "Low Show" for todays Rehearsal.

The CF-18 did a High show this morning at the Beach in the back-up jet and a low show this afternoon in the painted jet and then we were treated to 2 great missed approach passes at FRG before he landing on 32 this afternoon! VERY COOL!:cool:

I'll probably take a ride over & see what there is to see, if anything. I shot all day at the beach today & everything is going to take a lot of work just to show anything. Shooting into a bright cloud cover is not fun...

That being said, the acts all looked great today. I want to say I had a favorite but they all tore holes in the clouds. Holland, Klatt, Tucker, Windmiller = PHENOMINAL!
