As I was going through boxes, I came across a carton with old slides, and since the scanner was nearby, I ended up going through some of them tonight (yes, I've been up all night doing this...)

These were taken at JFK in July/August 1981.

Alitalia 747, I-DEMD

Montana Austria 707-138B, OE-IRA. This was one of two ex-QANTAS -138Bs the airline operated, in addition to a cargo 707-300. They were based in Vienna, Austria, and operated from 1976 to July 1981 - this photo must have been taken right around the time they ceased operations.

I'm going to shuffle off to bed, and I'll post a few more when I'm conscious again...

Royal Air Force Handley Page Victor K.2 tanker, XL189, at the McGuire AFB Open House, May 1982. This aircraft participated in the first "Operation Black Buck" mission, refueling an RAF Vulcan bomber which launched from Ascension Island and attacked Argentinian positions on the Falkland Islands just weeks before this show.

I was looking at the notes I had written on the little yellow slide boxes - over Memorial Day weekend 1981, there was an Open House at both McGuire AFB and Lakehurst NAS. The Thunderbirds flew at McGuire, and the Blue Angels flew at Lakehurst, and I hit both shows, Lakehurst on Saturday and McGuire on Sunday.

Yes, the NJ ANG flew the F-106 from 1973 to 1988, when they transitioned to the F-16. They were the last operational Fighter Interceptor Squadron to fly the Dart.
