Are they flying the 747 any more? I thought when they switched to the A380 to NY, they were removing the 747s from service.

All SIA 747's are officially out of service! (or so I thought )

The White Tail Star Alliance 77W will be a nice catch  And there are TWO now: 9V-SWI and 9V-SWJ

And it also means less scrambling to 31L ;-)

hmm, with the A380 there was no scrambling, it was a guaranteed certainty in would land on the Left. You may actually have to do more scrambling as it could go either way with the 777.

LH pilots regularly test their skills on 31L when they sub the A340  so it ain't a free lunch. Your best bet is to pay close attention to ROBER approach, then Final Approach if they are very busy (you'll hear the handoff to either the tower or to final) and then tower. SOMETIMES you have time if you happen to be located somewhere in between. But, if they call for a RWY change from the tower, you are likely not to catch it if you're not already by that RWY.

Many a time the pilots ask for a RWY change from Approach only to get turned down and then the tower will get mushy with them and approve the switch to visual on 31L. Too many times I missed a plane like that. Most recently AeroMexico 400 767 Skyteam... and most painful Finnair MD-11F!! Rememeber that day Mark when Conrad told us it was behind us? ROTFL!
