Went to JFK for just a little while today. Arrivals 13L, departures 13R. I was waiting for a few heavies, when the tower informed an Air France A340 that they were lined up for R, not L. Oops. LiveATC captured it, relevant clip starts at 48 seconds in (good timing).

After I got home, I was having dinner at about 7:30, when my mom says "Uh, that plane is really low and coming right at us." I ran across the house, grabbed my camera, got outside in time to get this BA 744 One World off 13*L* as it came over the house at roughly 1200 feet. Pretty fun and very unusual!

I ran across the house, grabbed my camera, got outside in time to get this BA 744 One World off 31*L* as it came over the house at roughly 1200 feet. Pretty fun and very unusual!

This is what the passur data looks like. If it is to be believed, the AF A340 made a proper approach all the way until cross bay, where they got confused and went right. They were down to 400 feet before they changed course, only about 1.5 miles from the threshold. Close one. Considering the approach, the tower gave AF a very quick "wtf are you doing?"

I was out in the backyard for a couple of shots before relocating to area that I've wanted to try.

Ooops............Air France making an approach for 13R instead of 13L

Here are some shots from a baseball field that is located on Cross Bay Blvd and 149th Ave. (Vito Locascio Field). For late afternoon 13L arrivals the spot is pretty good in my view. This location is probaby good only during late spring and summer months. I've always wanted to try this spot and finally got around to it. What I like thus far, is you get a variety of perspectives as the aircraft make their approaches. A 70-200mm or a 70-300mm is good for this location.

Oh yeah..........the second I saw him come over the house and then throttle up, I knew he was headed for the wrong runway. Typically it's those foreign carriers that make those wrong approaches. When they happen and if you're ready for it you can get some pretty wild shots.
