Walking from work to my in-laws apt on the West Side and as usual was going to walk through Central Park. Imagine my surprise when I encountered a Piper Seneca rotating 360 on its wings at the 5th Ave/60 Street entrance!!http://laughingsquid.com/how-i-roll-a-rotating-aircraft-installed-in-central-park/

Honestly as much as I like aviation, I think the rotating Piper is stupid............imagine someone seeing this who has a fear of flying (I can see them flipping out in Central Park). Now make it a ride and I'm there!

Save me a seat!

The interesting thing - it still has an active registration: http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=38832

Haha, these are the types that my girlfriend is used to flying. Was the plane gutted to save weight? Are the engines on there real? I'd be surprised if the beams could handle such weight like that.

There's a somewhat-explanatory sign nearby; I'll have to check it out next time I walk by and see if it mentions anything about that.

Interesting ... but why? I can't find any info on the message or whatever that this installation is trying to convey. Or is it just one of those "because ART, man" jobs?
