Single eng (general):
Staggerwing

Commercial (Retired):
727

Fighter:
F15

I Looked up the Staggerwing, Wow thats a nice one.

The 727 is still in service to some, I looked it up.

The F-15 used to be my favorite fighter but when I found out about the F-22 then I did research. It took me to the point were I wanted to see it at an airshow and when I did then it became my favorite. Saw it at two airshows and it blew me away. One of my cousin who is in the Air Force flies the F-15E. Last time I talked to him he was thinking about switching to the F-22.

Great question. I adore the Concorde; the only supersonic aircraft to carry passengers. My favorite sub-sonic aircraft is the 747; I love the shape and dimensions. When she first started service, I remember there was a First Class Lounge where Frank Sinatra, Jr. performed at a piano for the passengers! My favorite warbird is the Harrier as I saw her perform at an air show and was mesmerized. Runners-up are the L1011, A380, VC-10, and DC-10. I hate the B777 and those stretched-out Airbuses which ressemble flying cigars. Concorde had a gorgeous shaped Delta Wing; so beautiful.

it just doesn't get any worse than this:

it was a great aircraft - agricultural spray plane designed to purpose and without regard to style. obviously.

Military--KC-135--I think it's a good-looking airplane, but I'm also biased because Dad flew them.

Turboprops:
I've flown: Fairchild Metro 23--Fill it up with pax, fill it up with bags, fill it up with fuel, and go.
I want to fly: DeHavilland Twin Otter. Just looks like a damn fun airplane to fly...

Narrow-body jet: Boeing 757-200 w/ Rolls Royce engines--Power to spare, gets to the upper 30,000's with a full passenger load without breaking a sweat, and I could land it at the airport I learned to fly at (2900' runway--granted, neither it nor I would ever take off again if I did land it there, but it could do it if it had to). And it's a damn good-looking airplane too!

Wide-body jet: Boeing 767-200. Three thousand feet per minute climb at thirty thousand feet and a gross weight of over 300,000 pounds. 'Nuff said.

Dad flew KC-97's at Malmstrom in Great Falls, MT when I was born (1962). He went to the KC-135 with the 7th Air Refueling Squadron at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth in 1964. He flew in Southeast Asia in '65 and '66 (in fact, he took part in the first Arc Light mission in 1965 and saw the explosion from the B-52 collision, if you're familiar with it). Dad left the Air Force in 68 and went to Western Airlines.

KC-97! Despite what some around here may tell you, I don't go back that far! I flew KC-135As (and other variants - we had a mixed bag of -135s) with the 70th Air Refueling Squadron (305th ARW) out of Grissom AFB back in the 1980s. Always a great bird to fly.

I looked at your profile information after I sent the message and I see you're just a couple of years older than I am...which makes you still just a kid (I remember when people who were 50 were OLD!)

Was it a post of yours here or elsewhere that talked about Grissom having some of the old Looking Glass -135's that had air refueling capabiity?

Where and when did you go through UPT?

moose135

Yes, we had 8 tankers that had been EC-135s of one type or another. When their mission ended, they were returned to tanker configuration (the boom had never been removed) and the receive equipment stayed in place. Our wing flew them on some interesting operations - the Libya raid in 1986, being one. They called (somewhat officially) KC-135A/RT but we usually refered to them as RT-135s or just RTs. Receiver refueling in the -135 was a blast!

We also had 4 or 6 D-models. They had been C-135s, used for some kind of aerial mapping program in the 1960s. When that was done, they turned back into tankers, but had enough systems differences - 5-rotor brakes vs. 4-rotor on the As, and some other things that I don't recall offhand - that they got the designation KC-135D. We had two different versions of EC-135, the G and L model. I always said Grissom led the league in odd-ball -135s.

I went to Columbus for UPT, started in class 85-02, but washed back to 85-03 in the middle of T-38 phase due to an extended DNIF.

I am not a big fan of military aircraft, but I do have to post the B-17 because my Dad flew left seat in WW II; shot down over Schweinfurt.
Without a doubt, of all commercial aircraft is the B707-321 (Pan American A320 variant)
Currently flying, the B747 and the A340 - I have a real soft spot for four engine jets.
Other historic variants - Comet 4C perhaps the most elegant plane ever built, and honorable mention to Concorde.

I hated it for replacing the tomcat, but it's growing on me
I'd say Raptor but I can't say my favorite plane is one with no real mission but training and deterrent.

Vietnam/Korea era: F-5 Tiger/ Freedom Fighter, F-8 Crusader

Warbirds: P-40 Warhawk, P-38

Commercial: 747, DC-10

Favorite of all time: F-14 Tomcat, none better. Ever.

I might add to my list the L-1011. I flew mainly Eastern's version, but more than anything I remember the high ceiling; The plane just seemed to have unlimited room inside.
