I could never imagine the focus needed and stress of carrier landings, but I wonder if these guys got in trouble for what looked like an otherwise wasted ejection...

NOT AT ALL, I am sure they were justified.... Lets break this video down a little bit...

1. The hook pulls back and the aircraft does a rapid deceleration...ie good cable contact
2. The hook slams down with full force....aircraft is no longer decelerating due to a (a.failure of the cable) or (b. Failure of the hook)
3. The aircraft is No Longer in safe flight parameters and is in a potential stall/roll situation (Like how the first woman F-14 pilot died due to stall on an engine failure)
4. The LSO ORDERED THE EJECTION (any other action other than what the LSO ordered would remain in a court martial...RIGHT OR WRONG, It is NO LONGER THE PILOTS DECISION! (#4 ends the discussion, no pilot error)
5. The extreme CG change of the ejection pitches the aircraft nose up and the loss of probably 5-600 lbs leads to an unchecked climb and Stall.

This has happened many times and some of the aircraft continued to fly and needed to be shot down. My father told me about one incident in Nam...it was a cable snap!

This is my breakdown of the events as shown in the video.....Lets see if anyone can find anything online ;)
