I think the only new building at LGA for some time has been the Delta/US shuttle and new tower!

I just hope the old tower gets converted into a museum/observation deck.

He has been vocal about a lot of things lately, including stuff he has ZERO knowledge of (eg, Libya). Presidential campaign, ladies and gents.

Not to get off topic but the person in the WH doesn't seem to know much either since Libya has become a total failure. Back to Trump and NY I just don't get what he gains from comparing a dated airport to a third world anything.

publicity!

he's got a point, LGA needs a serious facelift but i wouldn't compare it to the likes of a third world country. i can say for a fact that it helps when tenants help take care of the property they rent. wish mine would do the same...

Matt hit that nail on the head !

Trump should walk the walk or shut up. Like you guys said, LGA is in need of a facelift, the Port has done a pretty good job with the place with what they have to work with.
Worked there for almost 11yrs and loved every minute of it !

If LGA is so run-down, why does Trump park his private jet there? Isn't he embarrassed that somebody will think he's from a third world country? What a chief executive this clown would make. He's such an expert on casinos that all of his holdings went into bankruptcy. He's just trying to stir-up ratings for his TV series which has been suffering in lower ratings.

It is closer to Manhattan than JFK or EWR (or HPN for that matter which is where he "should" park) and Teterboro means a trip through the Lincoln Tunnel which is not anyone's cup of tea. I assume it is also cheaper than landing/parking at JFK.

Regardless of what we say here, he has the right to speak his mind about anything, just like we do. Frankly, if he is parking there and does use the facility why can't he chime about its conditions? His personality and quirkiness notwithstanding? Are we saying LGA is up to the highest standards? I am not sure if he means his own hard stand needs work, or the gates his Limo takes or the actual terminal buildings or the runways and taxiways. Perhaps he is making a move to buy it? LOL.

Well, I did fly in-out of LGA last year on business and this last march in-out of Princess Juliana and the difference is palpable. A newly renovated and up to date terminal is definitely in order for LGA.

Beating up on The Don is easy but what about real facts? Let's take him out of the picture. What do you honestly think about LGA from all aspects related to infrastructure etc.?

I am on no one's side, just keeping the debate going for what we really care about here: Aviation :-)

He has a point. LGA is pretty dumpy. Even the newest buildings (not counting the new tower) are falling apart. The CTB is a dump and a half, the MAT is old. It has historic bearings... The Delta Flight Center is't nearly as old as CTB but it's usefulness was pretty much destroyed when 9/11 happened. As for the US terminal. That facility has the potental to be a fantastic building... It really does, but there are alot of design flaws that lend to leaking constantly, windows breaking in the ceilling constantly and the air conditioning system is as flippant as Obama's political agenda. In essence, the entire complex is a **** show and a dump. US cannot decide if it wants to exist let alone operate and that is probably the ace card. For what US's goals are, they should probably religate to the CTB and just let an airline like American or Delta do their thing with it. No reason for US to have a facility like that anymore...

Well if PANYNJ would put the money they get from the airports back into the airports instead of the bridges and tunnels maybe it wouldn"t be so bad. They have a plan to build a new CTB but want the airlines to pay for it.

I heard the plan is to cut the old tower down to the fifth level and make offices out of it.

You are correct. Apparently there is going to be a new landing system installed on one of the runways at KLGA and the old ATCT needs to be cut down since it will interfere with the signal.

That would be atragedy... the old control tower is historic and very unique... also a great location for a museum/observation deck. National Register of Historic Places should take it on... it they do cut it, it will be a very said day indeed. How may other towers look so beautiful and still contemporary after so many years?

though your info may be better than mine, i've been told from different people in different organizations it'll be gone completely. time will tell...

now i too value history and would love to keep the old tower i also realize that some history must be sacrificed for progress, regardless of how limited it may be.

My understanding of why the old tower has to come down was this is to allow for a CATII ILS to exist. The old tower's proximity to the runways prevents LGA from having lower mins than they already have

which we really could use.... would help to lessen delays when the wx is like it's been for the past few nights.

Well you know my info came from the Horse's mouth. It will be 5 floors. Remember the terminal is four stories so not that much will be there.
