Came across this link and you might find it helpful when spotting in a new area or you might want to know where the sun will be and the shadows it will cast. Too bad we can't overlay the airfield and the proper runway headings with a plane. Given I'll be spotting in LAX in March I found this helpful. You can click on the handles of the clock and move them or rotate the prespective of the globel.

It's easy to figure out the sun angle relative to the runways with it.

THats pretty useful Mark. I like it. Not only can it give you an idea of what kind of shadows will be cast, it also looks like it gives you an idea of when the light will be starting to get sparse for the day. Could cross ref that with flightaware prior to heading out to see if you'll have a chance to get all the a/c your hoping to get shots of.
