Alaska Airlines on Tuesday announced it has placed an order with Boeing for 13 new 737-900ER aircraft and two 737-800s, valued at $1.3 billion based on list prices.

The article makes mention of Alaska Airlines having a fleet comprised of solely 737s. When did they retire their other aircraft? I believe they used to fly a few whale tails?

August of 2008 I believe was the last flight of the MD-80 for Alaska, which with the 727 are the only other types Alaska has flown. Though with the other news out of Alaska Air Group, wouldn't the Q400 and CRJ now be considered part of their fleet?

Thats a shame they stopped flying the MD-80s. I always liked the look of their logos on that plane. Is Alaska Airlines trying to follow Southwest's philosofy with their fleet?

And you do make an excellent point Tad. Alaska did buy Horizon and are now putting their brand on the planes. So I guess they can no longer say that they have an all Boeing fleet.

Not true guys, Horizon still has it's own operators certificate. The only difference now is the paint on the plane. It is still owned by QX.
