Ok guys with the year winding down it is time to start with these threads.
Here is the first-
What was your catch of the year?-
For me it was Kingdom Holdings 744 in LAX on monday-

$5 says it is likely the L-1011 for jpl :P

First, the year ain't over yet :-)

Second, that would depend on if you're talking about catch of the year in terms of spotting geekness or catch of the year in terms of individual photo?

I am thining Geekness/bird you don't normally see. For individual photo we will have that one a little later.

Myria! Coming in a close second is the Lufthansa A343 that floated down half the runway, touched down, spooled back up, and performed a missed.

Then you would've made $5...the L-1011 is currently #1. But we'll see.

SOOOO tough to pick just one when I have so many. Maybe because I only have a few months of spotting under my belt!

And had the quality been there, this would have killed :-) I need to bring a Dobson 10" to Bayswater when it is nice out :-)

I had a hard time picking but when it came down to it, this one had not just a rare (by USA standards) plane but also an airline that I doubt I'll catch again....

Had several big catches this year, hard to pick just one, so I'll post a few...

Almost didn't get this one - word was a "Super Hornet" was coming into FRG, just a few weeks after air show week. Then I found out it was a Growler.
http://www.moose135photography.com/Airplanes/Airliners-and-Airport-Spotting/Republic-Airport/JM20100610EA-18G166898003/897137469_PSYaa-L.jpg

I'd always heard stories that "...the Dreamlifter just left JFK" - this time I heard about it before it arrived.
http://www.moose135photography.com/Airplanes/Airliners-and-Airport-Spotting/Kennedy-Airport/JM20101015N718BA003/1049361037_E4v8m-L.jpg

Because there aren't many flying, and it's such a cool airplane:
http://www.moose135photography.com/American-Airpower-Museum/Battle-of-Britain/JM20100906AAMBattleofBritain01/997556532_7jNKm-L.jpg

If only because this aircraft was destroyed less than two months later:
http://www.moose135photography.com/Airplanes/Air-Shows/Jones-Beach-Air-Show-2010/JM20100530FRGAirshow003/884030548_KmHRk-L.jpg

But if I had pick only one, it would be this:
http://www.moose135photography.com/Airplanes/Airliners-and-Airport-Spotting/Kennedy-Airport/JM20100502EP-AJD001/854768079_NCobR-L.jpg

It's been a pretty good year so far, let's see what the next few weeks bring.

and this, captured at MSP in September:

Here are a few of my favorites (without repeating some already posted by others). My favorite was the 707 during UN week and a couple from LAX during a few business trips earlier this year.

Favorite from JFK during UN week:

As military shows go, I made a trip to California JUST to capture this :-) The rest was icing on the cake

http://www.thrustimages.com/albums/capital-air-show-2010/_MAG6174.jpg

...and there were supposed to be six ships altogether. One had mechanicals and one bailed because there wasn't enough money in it.

Meeting Steve Hinton, shaking his hand and watching him pilot Glacier Girl was a real treat for me!

Well, I actually normally wouldn't just go to Cali for an airshow as much as I would go to ALL airshows (man I can't wait to retire LOL) but when I heard of what they were going to do, I HAD to be there. I really am glad I went regardless of the P-38s as the Capital Airshow is really a great show on its own!

My wife and daughter were treated very nicely by all the volunteers at our VIP tent, which makes it easy for me to enjoy the show!

Since I had seen the Prince's 747 twice this year (and Brandon already posted it as a catch of the year) I decided not to use that one. So instead, here are my three:

I got lucky that I didn't leave BFI, instead reorganized my car, to catch this beauty do 2 flyby's prior to landing.

Finally caught the Denver Broncos owner's plane. This is a personal catch of the year since I am a HUGE Broncos fan:

And finally just a really cool looking plane that I had never seen before:

Generally I've been keep it around 300-500, with airshows maybe, maybe getting up around 1,000 - I'm way less trigger happy than I used to be. (Look at my myaviation account with 5000+ photos - 2500 of which (at least) look oddly like the one before it). Once I realized I could trust my gear to pull another "W" into the right column I didn't feel the need to spray as much anymore. But always pray :-)

when were you at IAD?My wife and I were there for about 2.5 hours yesterday on a stopover on the way Seattle to Boston. I had to find my way over to terminal A from D which it turns out is a challenge when you don't know your way around (I used to live in DC but always flew out of DCA & BWI).

On a separate level that most of you probably won't care about, it was great to actually be sort of successful spotting IAD. I visited 3 times during my time in DC (no car made it super hard to get there from the city proper) and each time was a dismal failure.
