Just came across this. Not bad, I like the billboard look.

Ehhhh. Oh the fence until I see a shot of it in the sun or something. IS it me or did the "silver" become a dull "gray"?

not bad, but it could be a bolder font. especially on the 747 it looks like someone wrote on the airplane with a pencil. it's better than tiny little "united" or "delta" titles aft of the first door but it could still use some work. at least it's not black on white....

Mixed emotions, I think the bigger titles takes away from the nose art.

Nick's right about the how this very plain and boring lettering takes away from other details that are on the aircraft.

The gray there looks like it was once silver, but has now faded horribly over time. Again, I'll wait for shots in better light.

Looks like the titles are painted on the undercarriage as well, ala Qatar, & Emirates. Interesting, but would rather not comment until I see it in person.

I think (at least from the photos) that it looks horrible. The type that's near the wing section looks strange/squished/crammed because there's barely any whitespace around it, and since the font is so big, it makes everything unbalanced. I don't know why VS always feels like it needs to update their livery. I'm pretty sure the marketing meeting went something like:

Let's make sure people can read "Virgin Atlantic" when our planes come in to land.

Do you care how bad it looks?

Nope, just make sure they can read "Virgin Atlantic".

I just had a thought. As I was Photoshopping the new titles onto a VS A340-600, I was thinking about adding an upper deck to the A340 for fun, so all of the garishly-large text could fit properly. Does anyone happen to know of a big, ugly airplane with two decks that VS has on order, where the new titles would look proportional?

What the heck is that Star Alliance Rip off? As if it was bad enough looking at the Star Alliance now we have Virgin with the #2 Pencil font.
Although I am not a fan of gray or and particularly silver paint on planes I am glad they did away with the silver/metallic look and went with gray. Virgin always looked better white really.

The worst part of the Virgin liveries is how the color spews from the tail into the fuselage in a backwards angle. Odd design trend that is simply AWFUL.
Here's TACA: http://static.planespotters.net/photo/102000/thumbnail/PlanespottersNet_102048.jpg

Virgin's best color schemes continue to be the first three they had:

0149993
0146462
1578846

Why did the 2000s crop of marketing 'professionals' kicked good taste out the window?

...and get your shot while you can. This Virgin Star Alliance doesn't last 2 years.

Can't say I really care for it - but I'd still like to get a shot of it.
