A 4-pound metal door fell from an Alitalia Boeing 767 on final approach to Kennedy Airport last week and landed near the Nassau County Courthouse in Mineola, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Only took Newsday a few days to get around to report it...

What kind of door was it?

A hydraulic access door sized 1 foot by 2 feet weighing about 4 lbs. The door would normally be located at the underside of the fuselage about between the two main gear legs.
