This is pretty scary and hopefully its a one and done nut case and not a "network" out there. If that truck had
exploded in Times Square at 6:30 last night I could only image the injuries it could have caused. The fact that it
was smoking when a street vendor alerted a Mounted PD officer tells us that a fuse was lit but thankfully because
of their incompetence it never went off. On CNN this morning they related the story of Timothy McVeigh lighting the
fuse in his truck but got stuck at a traffic light and him thinking he was going to be a victim too because that light
was never going to change.

In case anyone waking up and reading this wondering what the heck is going on here is a link.....

On an aviation related note Mayor Bloomberg was down in DC at a function and flew back for a middle of the
night news conference. I guess he used his private jet and then PD Aviation met him at whatever airport he
landed in and whisked him to Manhattan. He looked pretty tired at the news conference but good ol bulldog
Ray Kelly looked fresh and ready to go. :)

But pretty scary stuff going on here . :(

Pittsburgh marathon course altered by bomb scare
Posted on Sun, May. 2, 2010
The Associated Press
PITTSBURGH - Police in western Pennsylvania say they detoured the final segment of the Pittsburgh Marathon after an explosive device was found.

Police said the device was found in a small microwave oven on the sidewalk after the leaders had finished the course Sunday morning. Several blocks near the original finish line for the marathon and half-marathon were cordoned off, and the bomb squad used a robot to disable the device. The all-clear was given for the area shortly before 11 a.m.

About 5,000 people took part in the full marathon.

Source: Reuters
DUBAI, May 2 (Reuters) - The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attempted car bomb attack in New York's Times square, a statement on an Islamist website said on Sunday.

The statement said it was to avenge the killing of two Islamists and "Muslim martyrs".

"The Pakistani Taliban announced its responsibility for the New York attack in revenge for the two leaders al-Baghdadi and al-Mahajer and Muslim martyrs," said a statement on a website commonly used by Islamists.

Newsday wrote an informative play-by- play article on this event. http://www.newsday.com/news/new-york/ti ... -1.1892062 (http://www.newsday.com/news/new-york/times-square-car-bomb-attempt-timeline-and-details-1.1892062)

It is indeed very scary stuff.

Overblown, I think. Even if wired correctly, this thing would have had a kill radius of about 4 feet. Not the work of someone who knew what they were doing.

I don't know why the Taliban or anyone else would claim responsibility for such an epic failure.

According to a time line in the Daily News Bloomberg and Kelly left the dinner at 11 and taken to the airport. They
boarded one of his Falcon 900s and flew to LGA landing around 12:30AM and into Manhattan by land.

This is not what officials are saying and looking at what was in the car I have to believe them. Times Square at that
time of day on a warm evening and we can all be thankfull the device failed.

Pretty interesting new conference where he has confessed to being the person responsible and blows Bloomberg out of the water as he told Katie Couric he felt it was a homegrown disgruntled person with mental issues and hatred toward Obama's legislation. Pretty weak. I am also floored at a question posed to Napolitano as to if this person was on the no fly list how he was allowed to board.

I suppose if this usual suspect had been a bit more indoctrinated and been inclined to be a "suicide bomber" he might well have found it not so hard to detonate the materials by more obvious means....

Just drop him into the icelandic volcano...
