Is anyone going to be spotting for Opening Day at Citi Field?

I have not heard what will be in the air for the flyby but my little brother will be on the field holding the big flag. He's in the Air Force.

Just wanted to get some feedback as to where most people would shoot from. If I remember correctly last year they had 3 or 4 F-18's and they landed at LGA, then took off moments before the game. I saw this from the roof of my building. The Marina sounds like a good spot but I'd like to hear from others.

Thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong section!

Wow, good call. Might be worth taking a walk on over (parking will be a mess).

On Monday April 5th 2010 at 1 p.m. there will be a Flyover at CitiField for opening day of the METS season. The Flyover will consist of four T-38C’s, leaving LaGuardia at approximately 12:40 and holding over the Long Island Sound. At approximately 12:55 p.m. they will begin to descend to 1,000 feet and conduct the flyover at CitiField. Following the Flyover they will return to LaGuardia Airport.

The Marina or ramp to Delta Departure level should have an excellent view.

Hmm. I have to drive no matter what. My only shot is catching them at LGA. They shouldnt follow the normal departure route and I hope they come in close

Would be nice to know when they'll arrive as well. I'm off today and tomorrow. Wouldn't mind catching them on the roof of my building.

Well the pilots are already here so I would imagine they arrived early this morning. My brother said he spoke to the pilots at Citi Field. Maybe they'll do a practice run tomorrow...wishful thinking.

Hey Phil I'll just be filming from the roof...not going to bother with the traffic

I wanted to go to Planeview park but the traffic coming back might make me late for work, so I don't want to take a chance. Hope you get some sweet shots!

Got some decent video, came out a little shaky but pretty nice.

They always fly right over my building during the flyby but I got lucky that they did the same during take off.

I'll post the videos when my friend gives me the cable to his camera.

Eh, I ended up goin out anyway. After my last post about seeing them go over, I remembered a local spot (College Point Home Depot) that I could prob get a decent angle at.

Unfortunately backlit and they came in higher than I thought, but oh well, I got 'em.

Still nice shots Phil!!

Edit** Maybe Wed the 13th will bring more promising shots. That will be the Yankees home Opener and the Super Hornets parked at LaGuardia for that one last year as well. I'm hoping for the same...

You can tell that from the RA tail code as well.

I was at today's Opening Day, and here are a couple of images I caught........not the greatest, but it will do. I had my 18-200mm VR lens on my Nikon D300.

I saw the fly-over from Flushing Meadows where I was watching the departures off of 13. They flew over exactly at 1300. Many departures flew right over CitiField, it was great for spotting and I'm sure the fans didn't mind the jet roar. As a bonus, on the way out, I met Jackie Robinsons' wife Rachel. We spoke briefly about the good old days in Brooklyn. She was charming. I guess she was being escorted to her limo.

Nice pics Mark! Can't wait for Jones Beach next month.

Speedbird...there wasn't much of a roar out of those T-38's. Pretty quiet IMO.

Thanks Phil......I was between home and 1st base when they flew by, but my seats were out in left field in the upper deck.
