I'm taking a trip out to Chicago in June on Delta, and luckily, I will have the honor of getting on a DC-9-30/40. I'm just trying to figure out what the best seat would be for snapping a few photos back into the engine. I am assuming it is seat 19A on the -30, but I want to make sure, and this forum seems to be the perfect place to get this kind of info. Any and all help is appreciated....

That looks about right.
Seat guru is consistent with your assumption. How ever you might want to look at some pix. If you get too far next to the engine it could block you view of everything. This happened to another photo who was thrown o the very last seet on a MD-80 and saw nothing but engine when looking out of the window.

To see the 40 series just replace the 30 with a 40 in the address clock 40.

I would say 2 or three seats forward on both sides. In the second shot 1 window is being blocked.

A buddy of mine who lives in Orlando just posted a nice DL DC-9-40 trip report on a.net that includes photo's and video's, he actually did 4 legs in 1 day on the same -40, his a.net sign is Dazed767, his TR should be helpful for you. !

Cheers and Have Fun

In this video I shot on a DC-9-30 (aASkhJjnZcY) I was seated in 17A. Not sure if 19A is too far towards the back, but I think as long as you're not in the last two rows you should be fine. I remember trying to get 18A but couldn't snag it. Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the help! I booked today, and luckily got seat 18A, so if I see that I'm too far forward or aft, I'll kindly offer the person in front or behind me a nice, crisp $20 for their seat....

Also dont sit too close to the engines or for the entire flight you will hear the JT8's. Powerful beautiful engines but loud. Though I love hearing it roar on takeoff. Nothing beats a JT engine.

I booked my winter break flights through DTW just to get four legs on the DC9. IND-DTW-LGA-DTW-IND.

Here's a shot from seat 18F, if I remember correctly...
