Ok so since most photography is digital today I figured this topic belongs here.

My monitor on my Dell pc died the other day and am now in the hunt for a new monitor. Any suggestions as to models or even what I should look for other than HD and good pixel ratios?

Thanks in advance :)

One of the things you want to look at is the type of LCD panel, not necessarily the brand. The most common types are TN, S-IPS and S-PVA, among others. It's been two years since I did my monitor research and purchasing, but I recall using these two sites ( http://www.flatpanelshd.com/panels.php and http://lcdtech.no-ip.info/en/data/lcd.panels.in.monitors.htm ) to find out exactly what is inside the monitors I was looking at. S-IPS and S-PVA tend to be best for color accuracy, but qualities differ between manufacturers. TN is used in lower-end monitors and is not even worth considering. I ended up buying an S-IPS Dell 2007WFP off of ebay.

Yes, what GrummanFan said. But also note that a certain model can sometimes be more than one type of panel. For instance, the Dell 2007WFP can either be a S-IPS LG.Philips or S-PVA Samsung panel, with most people preferring the S-IPS version. I was actually going to sell a 2007WFP (S-IPS) on eBay soon - PM me if you're interested.

There is a good chart here:
