I've never seen TAM Airlines in person despite all my visits to JFK. I remember seeing Varig many times in the past but not any TAM aircraft. Since Rio will soon host the Olympic games, my question is when did TAM start flying between Rio and JFK? I understand that they are the flag carrier for Brazil. I think that Varig used to be the flag carrier but they have had financial troubles for decades.

Has the late afternoon arrival stopped now? That's where I got the Signature plane (PT-MVD) around 5:30pm.

TAM operates 3 different flights into JFK. GRU-JFK operated by the A330-200 is a daily morning arrival/departure and a recently reduced 4xweekly afternoon arrival/evening departure. GIG-JFK, which started last year, operates 3xweekly with a morning arrival and an afternoon departure, except on Saturday when the flight departs in the morning. GIG started with the 767-300 but has now been upgraded to the A330.
