Before I get more into beer, I'm posting this because I am sitting here working on the site while trying Sam Adams Brown Ale, and I'm blown away. I've never had such a smooth yet flavorful ale. This beer is quickly in my top 5 all time. I highly recommend you folks try it.

So, what kind of beer to you folks like?

My favorites are as follows:

1) Bitburger - I first had it in Germany and I lose my mind when I have it States-side. It's a good "out" beer when you're hanging with friends. Just enough kick.

2) Yuengling - Oldest Brewery in PA (not Asian), and it's something that my family smuggled up by the car-load to NY for years before they sold it up here.

3) Pilsner Urquell - Another one I started liking while in Germany, and much more common when hanging at bars in Astoria.Although it gives me headaches often.

4) Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier - the only fruit beer I enjoy, probably because it still has some kick to counter the mary.

5) Sam Adams Brown Ale - Read above. Dizang, dis stuf is gud.

Though I have my beer tastes, like any classy guy I rarely would turn down any brand, except for Blue Moon and Hoegaarden. I simply cannot stomach them. I feel that once you start putting an orange into a beer, you've crossed gender lines.

Kids, don't get too excited! Drink responsibly and wait until 21! (A message from NYCAviation.com :borat: )

How about limes? I like a little lime in my Corona but I think the Miller and Bud lime beers are overdone. After the second one it
starts to skeeve me out.
My tastes are somewhat seasonal. Coronas and Sam Adams Summer Ale in....the summer. Dark beers and stouts in the winter
seasons.
I love amber beers/ales and last night had dinner at Heartland Brewery http://www.heartlandbrewery.com/ and love their
Red Rooster Ale. Two of them and a pint of Stout for dessert made a nice evening.
My mainstay and favorite and one I have been drinking for years is the High Life....Miller High Life!!! Love this lager and have been
drinking it since I started drinking beer. It is Millers oldest beer, brewed since 1903.

Limes get borderline at times. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for drinking, ad when I'm literally thirsty, I might go for a Corona, because you add a lime and it tastes like juice. I had to say that Bud Lime doesn't taste bad, but it's like a refreshing drink and I don't really consider it a beer in my own mind.

I'm going to check out some heartland stuff.

Same here! It was my first favorite beer, and I still drink it when I can find it - unfortunately, too many places only serve MGD or Lite.

I'm also a big fan of Yuengling - been on the brewery tour a couple of times, really an interesting place to visit. And I like trying out the various blends of Sam Adams as they show up. One old favorite, that I haven't seen around in ages is Moosehead - like that would be a surprise, right?

I was in Astoria and saw a poster for the largest Beer Garden in New York. It is on 35 Ave and 36 St. Didn't catch the name but that's where I grew up!! Wish it was there then but we did/do have The Bohemiam Hall.

Anyone been to this place? The poster said 18 beers on tap.

It's called Studio Square, I've been there a few times and have officially written it off. It's a great space and the beer is good, but the crowd is much, much different from the Bohemian garden and not in a good way. Bohemian seems to have added a lot of new beer selections since the new place opened, they might have 18 now also.

Sam Adams Blackberry berries but no oranges????? you fruit ;)

I'm going to check out some heartland stuff. That is always a great place to spend the day. We the train in, do lunch there and just have a bit of everything there. IIRC there was a Chocolate Doppelganger in the winter season. Deep and complex.

In no order,
Grolsch, Stella Artois, Heineken, Budvar, Leffe(an insane beer).

Is it across the street from Kaufman? As a kid we would hang out in the old building and the studios. That whole neighborhood changed.

Been to Bohemian way too many times over the years but probably not in the last 12 years. Many early mornings at EMS parties. They redid it? I guess they had to, the hall was old and the garden area saw way too many parties.

It's down the block from Kaufman. The entrance is through the ground floor of a building that I suspect used to be part of the studios...maybe it still is, but it seems like they gut renovated it because it looks brand new. The outdoor part is basically a big lot behind the building that they prettied up, maybe it was a parking lot or storage lot before.

And they didn't redo Bohemian, they just added beer. :)

I don't have any favorite in an order but I prefer the following.

1. Blue Point, brewed on Long Island, 4 miles from my house. Very refreshing with a full body taste.

2. Sam Adams Cherry wheat, fantastic flavor, robust with a crisp texture.

3. Brooklyn Brewery, I agree with Matt simply a fantastic beer and IMO one of the best I've tasted.

4. Stella Artois, great tasting, smooth, and a beer that is very flexible, meaning you can drink it in a nice lounge and not look like a classless tard or on a patio deck on Fire Island in a T-shirt.

5. Blue Moon, unique flavor and a good 4 season beer.

6. John Harvard Ale house, another Long Island beer house that offers a variety of flavors all very good and consistent.

7. Nastro Azzurro by Peroni Italian brew, the Italian brew is vastly different then the U.S version, very strong yet smooth (much like my Italian brethren) with a distinctive sharp taste to it.

8. Alaskan Summer Ale, its brewed with natural spring water from Alaska and has to be the most robust yet cleanest tasting beer I've had.

I was at Studio Square with Gotham, and I share the same feelings. Chances for a fight are high there, due to the level of idiots.

It's a beer garden, yet you see chicks showing up in dresses and guidos making appearances in full Ed Hardy-ware. They miss the point of this place. Some of it is probably due to the fact that it's a few doors down from a serious grease bar though.

I like the more rugged Bohemian Garden. Studio Square's outdoor area is a way-too-neat cobblestone, where was Bohemian Hall is cement and gravel and dirt. Studio is too pretty.

Yeah very hard to find on draft in a bar. Happily the Shop Rite in my town has six packs of bottles at a very nice price.

><I'm also a big fan of Yuengling - been on the brewery tour a couple of times, really an interesting place to visit.<

Good beer. Was at a family reunion in eastern Pa. two summers ago and they had a keg of the lager.

LOVE any Sam Adams!!!

Like the economy, beer is something I don't really understand enough to discuss intelligently. I've found myself steering clear of bar mainstays like Coors, Bud, Miller, Corona, and Heineken. Life's too short to not spend money you don't have on imports (or something not typically served in buckets).

First 6-pack I ever purchased myself was of Molson. I don't find it to be very pungent, which makes it enjoyable to just 'have'. LaBatt Blue is a good choice too. Both must be chilled.

Yuengling I've liked for a while ever since someone on this forum offered it to me when my taste buds were still in their formative years.

Had my first pint of Guinness at the Guinness Storehouse (St. James' Gate in Dublin) earlier this summer. Definitely a meal in a glass and full on hops. Each consecutive pint does, however, taste exponentially better when chugged in rapid succession. Just sayin'.

A GREAT alternative to Guinness is brewed at the same place (and by the same people). It's Smithwicks. One of my all time favorites.

Kronenbourg 1664, Dos Equis, Sam Adams Summer Ale are also high up on my list.

Isn't there a place in Astoria with a few dozen varieties on tap? We should get together there sometime. Or anywhere! Gaahahhh1095BEER708u!!ty9wu0q9iroALCOHOLoooohhgkjn sl haha

There is a place on 35th and 35th in Astoria called Sunswick, which I used to frequent a bit. They have 26 unique beers on tap...always something you've never had for you to try. I'm not a huge fan of it Friday and Satruday nights, but any other afternoon or evening, it's a good place to sit down and relax with a friend.

Last night I tried the Sam Adams Imperial White....which is a thick 10.3% yummy! haha. IT was pretty good, but you've got to drink it very cold, and try to down it before it gets warm at all. Not a bad one.

Phil, one of the things I miss about NYC is this joint on 34th or 35th in Midtown called the Ginger Man. Those guys have some of the coolest selection of Belgian Trappist Ales that I've seen in NY. Check out Piraat. It's a bit hefty at around 11% but tastes awesome.. Other than that:

When @ home:
1. Alaskan Amber Ale (AK)
2. Rogue Dead Guy Ale (OR)
3. Windmer Bros Hefeweisen (WA)... Sorry bro, this one goes with a lemon
4. Mac & Jack's (WA)
5. Black Butte Porter (MT)
6. Fat Tire (CO)

When on the road:
1. Sam Adams
2. Blue Moon
3. Grolsch

It's a reference to alcohol percentage I believe.

Last time I had them, which was a few years ago, the top was wrapped in a thin foil over the cap. They were some tasty beers.

There's a great little Belgian style brewery in Cooperstown named Ommegang. They make about a dozen or so beers. My personal favorite is the Three Philosophers ale that they age deep min Howe Caverns for 9 months. The tours of the brewery include free beer and Belgian food.

The famous "beer summit" at the White House today included the following, taken from CNN:

On Thursday, Gates and Crowley, dressed in dark suits, had Sam Adams Light and Blue Moon, respectively, while Obama, in rolled up shirt sleeves, had a Bud Light. Biden joined them for a non-alcoholic Bucklers.

A good mix, interesting to see Biden go with a non-ally. I was so eager to see which they'd choose. Maybe I'm an alcoholic.

Obama and Biden were both drinking beers produced by European companies. [INSERT SOCIALIST CONSPIRACY THEORY HERE]

Also, we now know that Obama's favorite beer and his favorite pizza are both made in Chicago's archrival city: St. Louis. [INSERT TRAITOR THEORY HERE]

So I related in another thread that I had dinner last night at "Quality Meats" steakhouse. And on the Liquor menu for
beers was "Pabst Blue Ribbon" Tall Boy!!!!! Are you kidding me? I love that. So after two tasty vodka and cranberrys
I ordered the Tall Boy with my veal chop :) dinner. Oh boy did I get grief from my Pinot Grigio swilling wife!!! LOL!!!
She goofed on me that Pabst was a cheap beer and i was a low life drinking it. Ah no clue!!! I love that Blue Ribbon and back in the day I drinked it regularly. In fact it started to make a comeback as I see a number of establishments are carrying it.
These friggin snooty wine drinkers. What do they know!!!
And does anyone remember the scene from David Lynchs crazy movie "Blue Velvet" where Dennis Hoopers psycho character asks Kyle MacLachlan if he wants a beer and when Kyle orders a Heinekin Hooper goes ballistic and starts
screaming "HEINEKIN!!!!??? HEINEKIN????!!!" and begins to rant how good Pabst Blue Ribbon is. Great scene, wacky movie.

Pabst had (past-tense) developed the reputation of being a cheap college beer, but I actually think it's good. A few years ago I Was in Florida and they have it bottled... which surprised me as I didn't know that was an option, which is probably why it was known as it was.
