Nice!

It's usually the last Saturday of Sept. so that makes sense.

I wonder what the Navy will be bringing in?

[Edit: "Please note: Events listed are eligible for Navy Aviation Support ~ HOWEVER ~ that Does Not Guarantee that aircraft will be available for the event. The ability of units to participate will depend on operational and training requirements at the time of the event."]

Good find. I'm very excited.

I hope a certain special visitor that was unable to come last year will be able to make it this year. [/annoying anonymous comment]

Surprised to see Greenwood Lake having an airshow that weekend also.

Maybe someone has finally bought the airport and is going to improve it. The Connie up there has had a paint job recently, although it should have been repainted in TW colors.

gonna have to be Mr. Kroeppel. 707s and DC-8s aren't allowed to land here at LGA.

It's an "open house" out on the ramp at LGA. Usually, they will have several airliners on display that you can walk through, visit the cockpit, etc. The NYPD Aviation and PAPD usually have helicopters on display, along with the Skytypers, some of the other area warbirds, and a few military visitors. PAPD has had a couple of big crash trucks and other toys on display, NYPD K-9 unit did a demo. There offered free hot dogs and other refreshments the past few years.

Remember they got approval for one last year, and it would have been there had it not gotten rained out.

BTW, I plan on going in the afternoon with my son. Maybe the whole family.

But HIghheel's parents wanted to know exactly what it was and what is there. Not having been there, how would you folks describe it? What is there , what to do, etc? Is there an age limit?

Ahh, my astute red-headed Irish friend, I remember it well!

I met up with you guys for dinner AFTERWARDS. Never once have I actually been to LGA kids day, never even set foot on the bus to take you on the tarmac.

So, how's it feel getting old and forgetting things?

Highheels and I met you as you were disembarking the bus that took you to the festivities. We got there at 245, knowing it ends at 3, just to do dinner.

So I may bring my family and in laws but not sure what to describe it as to the inlaws esp. as I have not been there. SO what exactly goes on there and what can they expect?

There were two or three airliners on display that you can walk through, cockpits included. Some local warbirds were on hand, including Warbirds Over Long Island and the Skytypers. A few military aircraft usually come in for tours also. PAPD had some of their big trucks and other toys out, NYPD (I think) had a K-9 team demonstration, plus free hot dogs, chips and water.

Ok, so how does this work? Time permitting (I've got plans to be drunker than ****), I'd like to check this out. Is there a specific place to go? Is it better to take public transportation? And how long should one expect to be at such an event? Thanks!

Matt Molnar

There is free parking in a designated lot, I forget which one, but if you enter the airport through the Marine Air Terminal entrance and make a left at the light, you'll see signs. The entrance to the event is through a small gate next to the PAPD building, where you board a shuttle bus which takes you to the fun.

Some old warbirds are possible as well. Will post details once confirmed. A lot of stuff is a game day decision, due mainly to the fragility of airline scheds and old planes breaking down, so we really don't know what will show up until the day of the event.

We having something nice in the works as far US's display aircraft. I am not going to post in case something goes wrong but manangement in our OCC was very accodomating at re-routing the aircraft for us and is inbound to LGA now and will be on the Shuttle all day Friday. The only clue I will give is it has NOT made a previous kids day appearance. Assumimg this comes together I think most of you will be pleased at what we are bringing over !

Just want to add that 4-22 will be closed and based on forecasted winds good chance 13 will be in use Saturday making for some rare chances to shoot 13 arrivals.

The two F-18's are planned to arrive LGA on Friday morning between 1100-1200. I was told the crew requested in advance and recieved tentetive approval to do a "Very High Speed" Low Altitude fly by on arrival. This would likely be on LGA's active landing runway which based on forecasted winds is either 31 or 4. If anyone wants to try and catch this their ATC callsign will be Ambush 07.

I look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday.

Not only is there no admission, but when you park (look for the signs - I think it's Lot 7) tell them you are there for Kids Day, they will mark your ticket, and you won't have to pay for parking when you leave.

The F-18s came in today, and WOW did they put on a show already!

Here's the article we put up about the flyby:

 Two F/A-18s Perform High Speed Flyby at La Guardia (http://nycaviation.com/2009/09/25/two-fa-18s-perform-high-speed-flyby-at-la-guardia/)

What amazing sound, and I loved that blue scheme. I can't wait to shake their hand tomorrow. I am feeling under the weather today, but I'm glad I had the chance to come out for a little to see this.

Phil, great shots, I know at that speed it had to be very hard to caputure, and your description was perfect, what a thrilling afternoon, and to think I actually got paid for that.

And Mario. Not only is their no admission, and free parking, but EVERYTHING is FREE. Free hot dogs, free drinks, free dunkin donuts, free face painting for the kids, a real cheap day out !

Cheers

In photo #6 where the F-18 is landing over the USAir PSA scheme......just above the AMR Eagle is the tower on the (what was) USAir Shuttle terminal. That was my office from '96-'98 when I was a Dispatcher for the Shuttle. That job was a spotters dream and I loved coming to work everyday. At the time there were 2 dispatchers (1 shift manager) and one ops person coordinating push/pulls, and being all around airboss for anything the agents needed for all the coming's and goings.

When the Shuttle merged with mainline most of the 8 dispatchers went to Pittsburgh but some left so as not to move. I imagine it's still being used by ops?

I remember the Kids Days....then they brought in the Tomcat's!
