View Full Version : Crazy? US to Launch CLT-HNL

Word on the street is US will begin a wintertime season service between Charlotte and Honolulu, using a 762 that is no longer flying to Europe.

I know traffic to Europe is down, but traffic from the east coast to Hawaii must be atrocious! Caribbean resorts charging $70 a night can barely attract people from 3 hours away! This seems like a truly bizarre route.

Tommorow 6-20 their are 7 US flights from PHX to Hawaii, 2 HNL, 2 OGG, 2 LIH and 1 KOA, all 7 are booked full. It's like this all the time all year, recession, no recession. While Hawaii yields are not high they are a lot higher than MCO, FLL, or LAS. Parking the airplane and paying the crews to not fly is crazy, this is NOT!

This is probably one of US's smarter moves as CLT is their fortress hub so filling a 762 from there shouldn't be to hard. From a comfort point of view a 762 is much better then a 757 from PHX IMO.

That takes two birds to be daily depending on how quick a turn hnl is. I think. US could find better uses for the 762. US is getting better though

Time will tell, but I think it will do well. For me I would not want to be on the plane that long so I would take the connx.

On a side note just skip HNL & go straight to OGG. I wish some one had told me that first before I went.
