It's no secret that EL AL has the amongst the most, if not THE MOST, secure conditions in the airline industry.

Their jets are escorted on many tarmacs, the boarding and security process is arduous and if you look at an ELAL A/c the wrong way, you are toast. ;)

So for all the really stringent security, I was shocked and thrilled to see them do this.

Kudos to them for really allowing one fantastic photo op! Only airline in recent memory to do this was South African a few years ago and AA with only 3 types back on in the 90s.

Bravo!

Yochai has some good shots, he works at TLV and pretty much has the run of the airport when it comes to photography which I was surprised about. As you stated with the security its nice he's able to deliver the shots he does from TLV. He's also IMO the best photographer in Israel in terms of spotting.

SAA did it again for President Zuma's inauguration - I can't find a picture of it at the moment, but it was done with two A346's and an A343. As soon as I can find a picture of it -I'll link it.

[Edit] I found this picture from AP online - SAA are nowhere near as close as the formations they used to fly - not as close at the El Al formation either.

That El Al shot is really fantastic. As for the formation; the cockpit crew are all former fighter pilots - I'm sure they would have preferred closer!
