While visiting the Bronx Zoo yesterday (5/13) I noticed that LGA inbounds going up the Hudson in the early afternoon made early turns eastbound over the Cross-Bronx at about 2300' to reach RWY 22. Usually, the inbounds make the turn well past the Bronx/Westchester border. Was there any reason for this short approach? Departures from RWY 13, were heading out using either the Coney Climb or the Maspeth Climb.

Sounds like a normal approach to me.

If there's not a lot of traffic they turn early sometimes.

That's true, I watch the 22 arrivals all the time. Its very often that the planes turn early to appoach 22, while the traffic aint that busy. But yes the approaches go as far as New Rochelle or further. But if the 31s are on departure, the approaches will go over Queens and over the LI sound.
