At least they're finally thinking about their stock photos of the P-3 with they weapon bay open in a steep bank, and the one passing Mt. Fuji.

The only reason the AF1 thing was scary is that, while it is a military jet, it appears identical to an airliner, and it had a fighter jet on its tail as if it were about to get shot down.

The P3 was meant to be up at 3,000 feet where no one would even notice it, and it doesn't look like an airliner. Besides, on many days you'll see hundreds of LGA arrivals fly up the Hudson at much lower altitudes than that.

Looks like an Electra to me.

Ok, I'll leave.

I didn't know the FAA had priority over military flights.

Since we missed it this time, how about another P-3 making a trip down the Hudson? Shot this from NJ on the morning the Intrepid was moved home.

Flyover was probably canx because of mx and the aircraft breaking!

Agree this would not have a been a big deal. LGA flights do sometimes go low (or even lower) over Manhattan, to the extent a P-3 Orion might seem out of place in its path, it would simply fly be and be gone. The AF1 thing was really a problem, because as mentioned above, trailed by fighter jets, and doing a couple of loops around the harbor...

The proof I think was in the B-52 raking the skies over the harbor last summer. The reaction was as if it had never happened.

It would be a shame not to see the P-3 Orions flying low over the harbor anymore. While they are infrequent, they're not rare either.

What next? No B-17s, No Coast Guard C-130s, no whatever...

Wait till next week when all the guests arrive for the JB Air show. They all love to take loops around the Lady and Manhattan.
I totally agree that the AF1 incident was a problem but please, lets not have a knee-jerk over reaction to every flyover on
the Hudson.

The ironic thing about the cancellation earlier this month, was just a day or two ago (I think it was late Monday afternoon - 6pm or thereabouts) I saw none other than a P-3 Orion over the harbor.. (well, 99% sure..I was in a parking lot facing away from the harbor and caught sight of the plane in the reflection of another vehicle's windshield...) so don't know which direction it was heading or perhaps just on the LGA flightpath even... but just goes to show..

Agree...no need for a knee-jerk reaction to ban every flyover the harbor/Hudson etc..

Not a big deal is right but after the AF1 photo flight everyone is up in arms. It's ridiculous. It's Memorial Day weekend and Fleet week to boot and because of a few weeks ago we have no flyover to honor service men and women? That's freedom and patriotism for you huh! Will be interesting to see with Fleet Week Helo demos flying over and around the Hudson.

You think the media would put some press releases in the news other than the Swine Flu to let people, other than those on NY aviation boards, know that jets would be flying.

Stupidity at it's finest in my opinion and I never voice that on here.

I saw a little blurb in the Daily News today about military aircraft being around this weekend so dont get nervous. Very little blurb.
