Heard on the radio today (April 29) that an old time subway car was put into service, something about commemorating Duke Ellington?

Another weird sighting here, at the corner of Rte 109 and Wellwood Ave today, I saw an Army TANK, on a flatbed, headed West. Would love to know where it was from and where it was going!

In all seriousness I feel I've been seeing a LOT more cops than usual around the city over the past few days. Hmmm.

What kind of tank? New or old? There aren't any bases on LI that have any units with tanks so if it was an active tank that is very odd.

Old or new? No clue. I was right before you saw me on Pinelawn.

Im trying to figure where it came from but got to thinking, it prob came off of Sunrise from some points South East as it can't go on parkways?

Seems status quo to me. Penn Station, walk to the uptown N, R, or W to Upper East Side. Nothing more nothing less.
When I see the State PD walking through the LIRR and city cops on the subway platforms riding and looking into trains
and more Hercules ESU units THEN I might start going mmmmmmm.

These two are in a parking lot at the Bethpage Business Park, the commercial area on part of the old Grumman property on Hicksville Road. There was an odd assortment of vehicles in the lot, including a small boat on a trailer, a travel trailer, and several cars (some without plates). They look similar to the Bradley armored vehicle, but are too small to be Bradleys. Maybe Matt, or one of our other Army types can identify it.

wow moose, talk about a challenge. i've spent about an hour now researching this online and haven't found anything as yet. gonna have to go look through Jane's.

the vehicle in your pictures looks a helluvah lot like the M2/M3 bradley, but has several major differences. the current bradley has 6 main wheels along the tracks, this has only 5. the rear hatch is also the entire height and width of the vehicle while the bradley has a much smaller hatch. this also doesn't look like the M113 armored vehicles (they're unarmed). the gun turret does look like it's aM242 25mm "Bushmaster" chain gun whis is the same as the current M2s and M3s.

gotta hand it to you moose, you stumped me. (for now... i'll figure it out eventually!!) i also can't find any connection between grumman and the M2/M3 Bradley.

I agree Matt - I spent some time looking at photos on line - the 5 wheels made it obvious it wasn't a Bradley, could it be an M113 with a turret?

OK, here's a wild thought - especially if this is the same one Mario saw near FRG...

They are filming a new Angelina Jolie movie on Long Island - the plot has her playing a CIA agent accused of being a Russian spy, who "goes on the run to clear her name." They were filming at FRG last week, and I found a news blurb from January that said they would be filming at the old Grumman Bethpage facility. I wonder if these are movie props, maybe M113s with dummy turrets for use in the film?

I was thinking that too, could be a movie prop. Or it could be a foreign tank.

Apparently there was a celebration of Ellington's 110th birthday and the 70th anniversary of the release of his timeless tune "A Train" with some 1930s and 40s subway cars running on the A line and a band playing inside 125th St station.

It's the British FV-432, made for ten years from 1962-1972. APC with some variants that had 30mm turret added. Come on, guys. *yawn*

Thanks, Phil, I was just looking at photos of that, but hadn't come across any with a turret.

the M113 has a steeper slope at the front, and the turret is much further forward that this.

now, this movie you speak of, think it'll be any good? the last angelina flick i saw was "the good shepard."

Moose! I applaud you for your detective abilities!

That is, in fact, the tank that I saw on that red trailer, westbound on rte 109, prior to it going past FRG and prior to Tom seeing me northbound on Pinelawn on the phone, all on Monday.

We found it!

Now....where the heck was it coming from? I'm throw this our there.....somewhere off Sunrise highway....

When I was heading to the Mounds this afternoon, as I got on Conduit Ave. westbound off the Belt, I saw the truck and trailer carrying the APC and an older model Land Rover. I followed him a couple of blocks, until I caught up to him at at red light. I shouted up through the sunroof, and asked if they had been using it during the movie filming the past couple of weeks, he said yes. I was going to ask him where he was taking it, but it was noisy, and the light changed, so I headed off to shoot.
