The pilot mentions his GPS went out and on another board someone theorized that maybe the GPS signals are intentionally scrambled in the immediate vicinity of the restricted airspace. Whatever, the pilot should have been more diligent and aware of where he was.

Way too much reliance on the GPS and not enough common sense. You even see this in drivers when the GPS tell them to go one way and its the wrong way on a one way street.
When I learned how to fly I had to know where I was at all times and be aware of my route before departing and staying clear of all restricted areas.

You mean like the morons who listen to their GPS telling them to turn left AT a railroad crossing?? "Geee honey...we're stuck on the tracks...how'd that happen...uhhhderrrrr!"
