Hi. According to the following report from the DOT, Bolivian airline Aerosur applied for the authorization to conduct a number of charter flights between Miami/New York and La Havana/Camaguey, Cuba:

http://docketsinfo.dot.gov/reports/undo ... -01-23.pdf (http://docketsinfo.dot.gov/reports/undocketed/oia/2009-01-23.pdf)

The application was recently approved and first flights from Miami to Cuba took place late last week. It is worth noting the charterer is C&T Charters (specialist in Cuba charters).

If the original schedule is followed, first flights between JFK and HAV would start on Saturday, February 8th (please note the flights from Miami were delayed a week, I ignore if this might affect the start up date from JFK), while the JFK-CMW route would start by February 28th.

Nine round trips have been planned for the first route (JFK-HAV) leaving every other Saturday, from February 8th 'til May 31st. On the other hand, seven round trips are scheduled for JFK-CMW, every other Saturday from February 28th 'til May 23rd. Thus, you'd have a weekly Aerosur flight during 3 months.

And the interesting part: all flights to be operated in 135-pax Boeing 727... not many chances to see them in passenger services anymore!

I hope you find this useful, best regards.

P. S.- Please note additional details on the application came from airlineinfo.com.

This is great news; and a rare opportunity to catch 727 at JFK. Any idea the arrival/departure time for these flights?

Many thanks GothamSpotter and Phil D. for your kind words.

As for the question posed by JZ1 on flight schedules, the original application stated:

JFK-HAV flight number would be Aerosur 8401 and the scheduled departure time from JFK would be 14:30 LT.

JFK-CMW flight is Aerosur 8403 with the same departure time as 8401.

There is no info on arrival times, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

Bolivian media reported the first flight from Miami to Cuba took place on Thursday, January 29th. I hope New York flights will be performed as scheduled and that you get the chance to see this very special aircraft there.

Thanks.

Looked to be SkyKing 737-200 today. Hopefully full Aerosur 727s will still be forthcoming .... ?

Hello again, starting August 2nd Aerosur will continue its services in the JFK-HAV-JFK route operating a weekly flight every Sunday, however from that date on it will use its lone 199-seat Boeing 767 (reg CP-2521), instead of the 727s.

Flight number from JFK is 6401, departing at 15:30 local.

Last service is scheduled on September 13rd, however we'll see if the contract is extended around that date.

Once again, the information at airlineinfo.com was a key for this post.

Hope you find it useful.

Hold on, hold on... I flew JFK to Venice, Italy on July 5th (DL 763) and saw an Aerosur 727 that day. I figured it was just a regular. Any help?

Thanks,

AJ

It is a little confusing, but I think they extended their original schedule with the 727. Tomorrow, according to DOT documents, will begin a new schedule, using the 767.

I did see yesterday that Aerosur was still using the 727. I saw it depart last evening on 22R

Saw the 727 on Sunday, too. I was waiting for the departure at Bayswater as they were using 13R all day, and it finally started its long taxi out to 13R. Then, I lost track of it, and it turned out it continued all the way around the airport back to 22R.
