Southwest will be flying in a special themed craft to LGA. The Sports Illistrated theme will have a model in bikini painted down the sides it's cabin. The aircraft will be at Echo parking then be brought around to MAT1 for the press event. The model pictured will then come down the stairs. There will be a event in Manhattan then the SI models and guests will leave that night in the SWA SI1 to LAS for another event.

The rumor on the Big Blue site says this event is to announce the start of WN service from LGA.

It was something that starting rolling a-couple of months ago when SW bought the old ATA slots at LGA.

Nothing mentioned about announcing the flights. This is more of a Sports Illustrated event where LGA was the closest airport to Manhattan and easiest for getting the talent in and out. The MAT will be used for processing the passengers (a full flight). Expected wheels up by 23:00, three busses coming into the MAT.

I'm sure the execs at Southwest don't mind having a craft at LGA before their June 28th start.

As many of you probably already know Southwest is sending one of their 737-700s to LGA tonight to reveal their new Swimsuit Logo jet tomorrow. I believe the plane is N922WN. Will anyone be there tonight or tomorrow when she is there? This plane will be there to announce that WN will start flying out of LGA. Would be great to see some pictures from you guys!

SWA 8500 is the flight :

Here are a few more details from someone at WN from the blue site.

Hey guys, yeah, source is internal charter paperwork.

Looks like:

FEB 10 - AMA (8pm CST) - LGA (1220am EST)

FEB 11 - taxi AC to event location @ Marine Air Terminal at 10:00am EST
LGA (11pm EST) - LAS (140am PST)

FEB 13 - LAS (1100am PST) - LGA (540p EST)
LGA (645pm EST) - BWI (745pm EST)

I think these times are accurate but double check on your own with a flight tracker.

I confirmed with my other set of eyes over at the AA Tower the aircraft is indeed here, working till 1300 today, will go take a peak on the way home.

The plane is parked right up near the fence where we usually enter for Kids Day. If you're standing front of the MAT, its right there. My view was partially obstructed from where I was, but the plane looked a little boring, and I didn't notice the model decal....nor the model.

There's a little press here too.

Am I going to be the first to say it?

How the heck do you kick random passengers off a plane, for wearing clothers that are too revealing, and then do this?

Screams hypocrisy to me.

Ari, of course it is. But in my opinion, its a sad commentary on what WN presents its values to be.

Took a quick peek at the MAT after work today, no camera. I find the plane actually a cross between the above photo of Sky Europe and Alaska's light blue Disney schemed 737-400, the uniuqe shade of light blue is almost the same.

This one should be intersting to watch as I belive passenger re-action will be very mixed.

Here are some pics from the British Daily Mail.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't SW the same airline taht kicked off its plane a young woman whose skirt was too skimpy (about 2 years ago)?

It is a rather interesting choice when you think about it....some might find it offensive and your right it doesn't really play into what WN is about. Personally I don't think it looks good at all, just from a purely ascetic standpoint.
