ahhh to dream...but seriously, why did they follow Nikon and add the HD Video? You make the product an HD video camera, or a high-end pro still camera. Why mix the two?

Probably because it wasn't too difficult to add video to the technology they already have built into the camera. Even the 40D seems capable of doing video: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/40D

Personally, I probably wouldn't use a video mode even if I had it available.

The video is definitely a gimmick, though I can see it coming in handy on occasion. It is far more advanced than the Nikon's video, which only shoots 24fps at 720p with no AF. The 5D shoots 30fps at 1080p with a couple of decent, if not camcorder quality, AF modes.
