Qatar Airways has been planning on starting nonstop flights between Doha and JFK for a while now but has finally confirmed that they will terminate their Geneva - Newark flight in favor of the nonstop flight to JFK.

Flights will be daily and will start on October 26th operated by 777-300ER aircraft.

This will definitely be a welcome visitor and great to spot at JFK. I always wondered why Quatar didn't serve JFK when so many other middle eastern carriers do...

JFK is quickly becoming the 777 capital of the world, especially for -300s and 200LRs. Great news.

but has finally confirmed that they will terminate their Geneva - Newark flight in favor of the nonstop flight to JFK.

Gordon, this is incorrect and is only a rumor about terminating EWR. EWR is still bookable all the way through at least the end of this year. The JFK flight still isn't even showing up on their website as of tonight.

The rumor of a nonstop flight to JFK has been around since Qatar started flights to EWR. Since flight times have surfaced I'd say we are looking at a little bit more then a rumor.

Well as for the 200LRs, the only airlines that will have the 200LRs at JFK after 11/1/08 will be PK and AI, since DL is pulling off the 200LRs on the JFK-BOM-JFK

The JFK flight now appears on the Doha airports website as well as JFK's website and apprently they will be using Terminal 1 at JFK which surprises me. I imagine they will have Lufthansa handle things for them on the ground.

Still no word on whether or not EWR will continue but the flight numbers for JFK will eventually switch from 1084/1083 to 84/83 which are the EWR flight numbers. The flight continues to show and as an A330-300 which was supposed to happen this summer but I don't believe it ever did. Bill would be able to varify that.

Qatar has *officially* confirmed the nonstop flight and that EWR will be discontinued, it no longer shows in the airlines schedule after October 26th.

Now if only MH, BR pax, and SK made the switch, we would be set:)
