A Zoom airplane carrying as many as 140 passengers landed successfully at Pearson International Airport yesterday afternoon after sending a distress signal about a blown tire, Peel regional police said. Numerous fire, police and ambulance units were waiting at the staging section of the busy Toronto-area airport for the plane, arriving from Glasgow, Scotland. The plane landed at 12:45 p. m. local time. No injuries were reported, according to Peel Const. J. P. Valade. Zoom airlines operates low-fare flights between Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Paris. The Aviation Herald website reported that the Boeing 757-200 was over the Atlantic when a message was relayed from Glasgow that debris of a tire belonging to a 757 had been found on the runway at Glasgow. Officials assumed the debris belonged to flight Z4-523 and as a precaution radioed for an emergency landing. An inspection revealed the inner left main gear tire was missing its tread, the Web site reported.
