John Heyman of WFAN and SI.com is reporting Willie Randolph will probably be fired today.

I don't dislike Willie, but obviously something is wrong. Then again, Wagner blowing three straight saves isn't his fault. Still, something has to change.

Yesterday's meltdown is Wagner's fault, but Willie is part of the long term problem. However the biggest problem is Omar.

Bonehead trades and the signing of overpriced, indifferent old players are a bigger part of the Mets' troubles. Dump Omar--he's the real problem!

Am I the only one who thinks Heilman needs to drown in a jug of powerade?

Count me in on that feeling as well.

Last year they said if he didn't shape up the team he would be let go. Obviously its a shame to see willie go, but if management feels something needs to be done... they have their reasons.

Gotta remember Willie is in denial. He's the guy that said things like "this feels normal to me" while presiding over the biggest choke in 100 years of baseball.

Good bye Willie....oh, and take Hojo and Rick Peterson with you....

Hmmm..will Rick Peterson wear his warm-up jacket whilst filing for unemployment?

Defying any practical logic, Willie, Rick and Tom Nieto got canned at 3 am after flying out to LA and winning the first of a three game set at Anaheim.

I'll say it again--Omar's the problem!

Oh that Omar, always a class act.

Very strange timing indeed. Woke up this morning to see the news on SNY. You would think they would have done it before the trip, obviously Monday's game didn't have any bearing on it. Hope he has his ID with him, TSA may not let him fly home  Would hate to have to ride the bus home!

Omar is certainly part of the problem, there are a number of issues with the team the way it is constituted. But typically, a GM does get one managerial firing before being on the hot seat. I think Omar is safe for the rest of this year, but unless they turn it around and have a strong 2009, he won't survive next year.

This team has underperformed for more than a season's worth of games, and ultimately that falls on the manager. And after watching Willie manage for 3 1/2 years, he has left me scratching my head over his decisions many times. Remember, Willie never managed at any level before being named Mets manager in 2005, and I think that inexperience showed a number of times, and it looked to me like he never really learned from those mistakes. Following up last year's collapse with a fair-to-middling start to 2008 didn't help him any. Sorry to see anyone get fired, but I don't disagree with this one.

Rick Peterson was really a disappointment to me. He was this "pitching guru" who was supposed to be some great savior, but I wasn't all that impressed by him. While he had some success early in his Mets tenure, the pitching staff, especially the bullpen, has not lived up to expectations. Despite his later denials, his involvement in the Kasmir/Zambrano trade (he could fix Zambrano in "10 minutes") was a low point in his time with the Mets.

Hopefully with the distraction out of the way, the team gets it in gear and makes a run at the division title. It would be great to close out Shea with a successful season.
