Well it looks like on July 1 Thai will pull out of JFK. Better try and nail her now while you can.

The spiraling jet fuel cost is also forcing the airline to terminate its direct Bangkok-New York flights from July 1 and to cut flights to Los Angeles to five a week from seven, he told reporters.

The New York and Los Angeles routes would lose the company around 4 billion baht ($120 million) a year without the cutbacks, said Mr. Apinan.

Thai Airways bought the four Airbus planes three years ago for about $130 million each.

"[Besides New York] we'll continue to operate all our existing routes, but we may consider cutting a number of flights with low bookings on a case by case basis," said Mr. Apinan.

Good riddance. They could never bank right at HoBe anyway.

...
Just kidding. A shame to see them go. I wonder if we'll see any other Asian carriers start cutting back flights to NY in the near future?

Yeah but Thai always had some fine looking young ladies working in the cabins.

I had read Thai was loosing a lot of money on the JFK route back when fuel was under $100 a barrel, and it was being flown more out of Prestige, than anything else. So this comes as no surprise, and I expect to see more of the so called "prestige" routes disapearing around the world.

Oil jumped 8% today. If this keeps up we'll be saying "so long" to quite a few more carriers.

1. You're not lying, it's true!

2. Post of the week.

For the airline and its aircraft that does the most exclusive bank take offs than any other plane, Im not happy to hear about this at all.. I gotta try the best as I can to get out to JFK to catch her before its too late... I do have 2 shots of Thai at terminal 4 I snapped last year.

Expect a lot more airlines to do the same in the near future. Oil is probably the most necessary evil in history.

That is right.. Unless the price drops and remains significantly lower, what we've seen now is just the beginning. Big Changes right around the bend...

I'm surprised no one has commented on the fact Thai bought 3 brand new A340-500s for $130 million each.

By comparison, Boeing's "list" prices for a 777-200ER/LR run $200-250 million. Don't know Airbus list prices, but $130 mil is a deep, deep discount.
