An Antonov An-12 cargo aircraft operated by Moskovia Airline (Moscow) crashed on Monday near the city of Chelyabinsk in the Urals region, killing all nine crewmembers aboard. Eight minutes after take-off, the crew reported to air traffic control that there was smoke in the aircraft cabin. Two minutes after that report, the aircraft’s radar identification signal had disappeared. The flight crashed at 8:12 Chelyabinsk local time, and the wreckage was located about 11 kilometers from the airport. Seven crew members plus two engineering personnel were on board, says Russia’s transport ministry, although it was not carrying any cargo. There were no survivors.
