WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US Airways Group Inc (LCC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) sought on Thursday to delay for a year the start of its Philadelphia-Beijing service due to fuel price pressures.
"At today's prices, the fuel cost alone of running this single flight would be more than $90 million a year, about $40 million higher than the estimates we made when we filed for the route," US Airways said in a memo to employees.
US Airways said it has asked the U.S. Transportation Department to let it begin service in the spring of 2010, instead of the spring of 2009. [Full Article (http://www.reuters.com/article/AIRDEF/idUSWAT00955220080522)]
UPDATE: United has also requested a 1 year delay on their recently granted SFO-Guangzhou service.
