Two VERY LOW (and very LOUD) F-18's travelling due west over the North Shore of eastern nassau at 1:00 pm. Anyone know where they were going from or heading to. I haven't seen any military jets that low in this area since 9/11.

Probably for a fly-over at Shea, since it's the Mets home opener today.

They landed on 4 and are at LGA after the flyover. We where unbable to get a planned ETD but based on prior events I would guessitmate midday Wednesday.

I hope someone got a shot landing 4. Anyone get to see what squadron they are? CAGs?

the crew on my flight home from DCA today was complaining that they were delayed departing LGA because of those damn go-fasts.

But in a case like this. I'm guessing they went back to LGA to refuel.
But couldn't they just have done the fly-by at Shea and headed come and met up with a KC-10 for some fuel?

That would require launching a KC-10 and wasting that much more fuel.

While I am sure they where or will be fueled at LGA that is not why they are there. It a longstanding tradition with flyover's at Yankee or Shea Stadiums that they land at LGA and the pilots are taken to and are guests at the game. They miss the first few innings and are often introduced on the field around the 7th.

Then they overnight in NYC usally departing LGA the next day between 1100-1500 with 1400-1500 being the most common time.

As I have seen around 25 of these I am fairly comfortable with my info being at least semi-accurate.

BTW the way "Nice Job today Mets", at least my Yankees lost as well !

I must have been trudging to my seat after the ridiculous security line when the flyover happened because I didn't see/hear it.
