SAN FRANCISCO, Mar. 20, 2008 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) -- UAL Corp.'s (NASDAQ:UAUA) United Airlines has grounded several Boeing (NYSE:BA) 747 jets to ensure compliance with federal maintenance standards, according to a media report on Thursday.

The Federal Aviation Administration ordered the temporary groundings after discovering that test equipment used at a South Korea maintenance station was faulty, the Wall Street Journal reported. how long did this temporary grounding last? i heard it was only a few hours to get all the airplanes signed off.

But Tommy, such "quality" work can be done at a much more reasonable price overseas. :roll:

This is why I see UAL as the next legacy carrier to disappear...well that and $100/barrell oil.

Won't matter, airlines have had trouble with maintenance records, even when there maintenance is done in the US.

Though, I would prefer if maintenance was conducted here at home.

Turns out the machines in question, used to test altimeter accuracy, was not necessarily faulty, but overdue for calibration.
