Until the end of the suspension, the three surviving B-2 stealth bombers will remain in Guam, U.S. Military Spokesman Matt Miller said.
WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Pentagon has suspended all flights of B-2 stealth bombers after a B-2 crashed on Feb. 23 in Guam shortly after it took off, U.S. officials said Monday.
The Pentagon ordered the so-called "safety pause" to allow checks of the country's remaining 20 B-2s, Matt Miller, a U.S. military spokesman, was quoted by the Military Times as saying.
Both pilots of the crashed B-2 ejected safely, though one was hospitalized, he said.
The B-2 that crashed was one of four scheduled to return to Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., where all B-2s are stationed.
The four B-2s were deployed to Guam on a four-month tour.
Until the end of the suspension, the three surviving B-2s will remain in Guam, Miller said.
The crash is the first ever for a B-2 bomber.
The B-2 was first publicly displayed in 1988 and took its first flight a year later.
Guam is a U.S. Pacific territory some 6,000 km southwest of Hawaii.
