B&H has a Canon 1200mm f/5.6 L in stock. They wrote an article about it:

I joke about spotting EWR arrivals from my office...I bet with this lens it's really possible!

Hook this baby up to a non-full frame 40D or XTi and a 2x extender and you're good for 3840mm! Of course at that rate you'll only be shooting at f11. And to buy the network-TV-studio-camera-size tripod you'll need to hold it, and the lens itself (Canon says there are "less than 20, more than 12" in existence, they build about 2 a year), you'll probably need a nice subprime mortgage. If you want some real unique shots from Planeview, this lens is perfect for capturing an arriving FO's nostril hairs.

Ha, we both read the B&H newsletter at the same time. I merged the topics.

Here's the B&H listing for it. (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800557508-USE/Canon_2527A001_Super_Telephoto_1200mm_f_5_6L.html) . $99,000, plus $500+ to ship it and/or $8500 in sales tax.

Pack mule not included.

Holy crap! For $100k+, and used no less, I'd damn well BETTER get a pack mule!!

About 10 years ago, there was an article about the lens, talking about the manufacture, the uses, and the owners. The largest single user was NASA, and then SI, and the others mentioned in the new blurb. How much fun do you think the B&H guys had hauling it up to the roof and taking a few pictures?

SI as in Sports Illustrated?

Necropost!

Not sure if this is the same one B&H had last year, but they're now selling one for $120,000.

Interesting note: Somehow, it's still 14lbs lighter than the Sigma 200-500.

$100,000+ and it's not even IS. Epic fail.

They have been out of production for awhile, if I remember right.
I believe national geographic owns a few, and then it's basically things that end in "agency".
