With the proposed slot restrictions coming this summer at JFK B6 is thinking about converting some of its orders for A320's to a mix of A319's and A321's. Probably a smart move that would give them greater flexibility in the kind of markets they serve.

The A321s would make sense, but it would be nice if jp's new news blog would cite sources rather than just posting a couple of sentences like an anet rumormonger. There is nothing on the wires about this, though yesterday they did close their deal with Lufthansa.

If they are restricting slots, why would B6 go for the SMALLER A319? They already have an aircraft to cover that market, the E190. I can see the A321 making sense: more pax seats & less flights, freeing up a slot for a more profitable flight, but the A319 just doesn't compute in this scenario.

Matt the source is Bruce Drum who is a highly respected industry insider who is considered a first hand primary source in the industry. In no way is it anything like an "anet rumormonger," trust me the two can't even compare. There was tremendous work done by the ENTIRE staff of JP.net to role this out to ensure the news that was provided is for free unlike at A.net but was also highly accurate. The difference between this and the news A.net provides, is A.net is just feeding news from other sources, jP.net is reporting the news first hand.

Actually the 319 is going to mean less weight restrictions to the carribean as well as the west coast while the 321 could serve cities in Florida like PBI and FLL. The 320 would be able to serve markets of medium capacity like SRQ or RSW.

This will be very nie to see the A319 and A321 in B6 colors.

The A319 has more range then the A320 doesn't it?

Yes:

A320: 2615nm-3065nm (depending on version)
A319: 3697nm

I wonder if LH's reputation of flying almost every major type of commercial airliner is starting to show it's early influance at B6. And while B6 would probably just convert new A-320 orders to 319's or 321's I wonder if LH wants to unload some ?

Cheers

I could deffinitly see the 321 on the FLL, MCO and PBI espically in the winter and the 319 would make the x-cnty flights without the tech stops that the A320 has to make ever so often...
