ABC News has a great article and video about FedEx's insane Christmas ops on the busiest day in their history, Dec. 17th, when they were expected to carry 11.3 MILLION packages.

Some of the points I found fascinating:
-- 15 full-time meteorologists on staff
-- 6 empty jets fly zigzags over the midwest every night, prepared to land anywhere to pick up unplanned extra cargo
-- Biggest customer: US Postal Service!

That's a really interesting article, Matt! I've always preferred FedEx over UPS/DHL, etc....now I know why. :)

Wow, simply, wow!

Z's are pretty cool :)

I wonder if one could get a tour of their facility at MEM? Specifically the ops center :)

And I would question the claim of being the second largest... I'm pretty sure NetJets has more planes than they do. Not all in US, but neither are FedEx's.

You can get a tour from an employee if you have any friends. MEM has a huge weather room where you can see guys that you have, have not, will not, and hope not to fly with. Trust me You've never seen so many leather jackets. Families - Fathers and Sons, Brothers, Uncles and Nephews,-The Check Airman that threw you that ride on your interview, and everyone else. Come on down!

The weather guys are pretty good, just wish we had that many dispatchers.
