Pretty big scare at LGA this morning. I was attending a Port Authority construction meeting this morning in Port Ops when several chimes of an alert One sounded followed by: Canjet 737 diverting to LGA, 22 miles out for Runway 22 with a fire in the cargo compartment. Really got the heart beating pretty fast. As I had hoped they made a successful emergency landing and it was a faulty indication, not an actual fire. Canjet 8842 was operating YUL-MCO with 737-500 ship 517, C-FDCZ. About 0900 she parked on CO Gate A4 and we did not hear anything for a few hours. Canjet ended up sending down ship 506, C-CGAB as CJA 9800 from YHZ (Halifax) and that aircraft finally took the tired passengers down to MCO, finaly becoming airbourne around 1715 lcl. Ship 517 ferried back to YHZ as CJA 9801 and it was pretty cool seeing two Canjet 737's in the same long takeoff line at LGA.

I'm happy it was just a false alarm, but it's good to see that all the basic emergency procedures are in place for a timely response.

I almost went to the precon yesterday, too bad I didn't know you were there. With Nick Russo, right?

Why would they divert to to LGA and not JFK?

When theres a fire you go to the closest field that you can land at and has emergency equipment
