I was talking some photos in an art supply store. (of beads, lots of color=good photo) Anyways I was told to stop taking photos.

This is where I have a question, The store is open to the public, therefore I sould be able to take photos in there right???
I know that in mall it is legal to take photos in, because its open to the public.

A mall? Most security people at malls go insane if you try to take out a camera or camcorder. Malls are private property, and I would assume stores would be too. Even though the public can go in it, its not like a park.

Photography on private property is off-limits if they tell you to stop, even if the space is open to the public, like a mall.

All stores are private....you have to do what they say. If they want you
to stop and you do not, they can throw you out and ask that you do not
come back. If you come back, they can have you arrested for
tresspassing. They can ask you to delete the photos, you have no
obligation to delete them.

In public it is a little different. In the parkinglot of a mall I was working
at, I was asked by the poliece to stop shooting. I said no and the
fireworks were great. He made up his laws and I knew the real ones....it
was not fun but he walked away pissed. If he could have busted me for
anything, he would have. He was trying to stir me up so that I messed up
and gave him a valid reason. If I lost my cool, I would have been getting
great shots of LGA from behind barbed wire!

I knew what he was doing but did not back down. I went on to say that it
is within my legal right to take his picture as he IS a public servant. THAT
REALLY PISSED HIM OFF. YES, I TOOK HIS PICTURE IN THE CAR WHILE
HE WAS LOOKING AT ME while LEAVING.

I did get this shot

I would have collared you if you spoke to me like that. A mall is private property both the building and lot. All the cop needed to do is ask the mall management if they didn't want you on their property then it would be trespassing.

Remember some of the spotting locations are on private property. It's fine to stand up in a calm manner but once you push it you get what you deserve.

A not so nice cop this time. Two days before I was shooting in the same
spot wile chatting to an officer in the same sector, we talked for a good
10 minutes or so. His frend worked for AA and he liked the A-340. I felt
very sorry for him. Airbus lovers  and the
340???

LOL, I would have told him the boss wanted pictures of the facade of the mall and while you were out there you shot some planes (works at Airports + the numerous IDs) :P
